Subway

I like the idea of Subway -- fast food that is fresh food -- but the execution fails on one major point: the bread.
The stuff they are putting out is not bread. It's closer to a sponge than bread. It tastes like a dog biscuit (you have not partied until a dog biscuit is an appropriate snack at 4:30 AM).
I like the fillings, ...well, except the fake cheese. But the vegetables and meat seem mostly good.
I don't consider myself a bread snob, either. But bread should be bread.

I'm no bread snob either, but I have to agree the Subway bread is not all that impressive. I make sure to load up with other good stuff (peppers, spinach, cucumbers, etc.) so I don't focus on fact that the bread tastes like pressed sawdust.
That being said, I try not to partake in Subway often. Fast and Fresh maybe, but when a whole hoagie gets you to your daily sodium goal, it's not doing me many favors.

Fair enough. It is kinda spongy. But it smells fantastic. If I could buy candles that smelled like a Subway, I would.

We don't go to Subway often but it seems like they're pretty skimpy with the meat as well. I can go to the supermarket deli counter and get a better sandwich for about the same money. And now that Jared is out of the picture......

When I was trucking I stopped at subway often..Now the smell of a Subway just makes me wretch I had that problem with Burger King for a while. There is a BK on every Army base, and it's usually the only place around with a drive thru. Needless to say, after 12 years, I avoid Burger King most of the time.

I hadn't considered the sodium angle. Yeeech.
But heck, who doesn't love junk food?
Donuts, cheeseburgers, pizza and altruism -- I mean, and tacos.

A long time ago I worked at a Subway and I'll tell you that the bread is quite awful from start to finish. It comes out of the freezer as a long stick of dough, sits out to thaw, gets prebaked, then baked, and finally sits until you order that sandwich. In theory the bread is supposed to be fresh because they're throwing out the stale bread. Even then the bread tends to collect a crusty stale taste quickly.

Subway is alright when you're in a pinch and want something that can be semi-healthy.
One thing I didn't know about them, most of their processed meats are all derived from turkey. Even the stuff like their salami and roast beef. I thought it was BS, but it turned out to be true.
The oven meats like the roasted chicken and steak are legit.
A Club with everything on it except for cucumbers, extra jalapenos, Italian or vinaigrette with some black pepper. That's my go to. Not bad. The BMT is tasty to for a less healthier option.
Not a big bread guy normally, but craving the stuff lately. Been avoiding it in my diet for the most part.
