I saw this pop up on my phone alert.... it led me to count my blessings...the woman in the opening video... losing all the family heirlooms, it is easy to say that the imost important things like life is saved, (and that is true), but sad nonetheless to lose the irreplaceable family items. www.cnn.com/2017/10/15/us/california-fires-updates-recovery/index.html

Yo Charlie I hope your son is coming out ok on this disaster. hp les Thanks Les, He has been evacuated twice, inbetweeh the evacuations he got in and everything was ok, but smoke permeated his apartment pretty bad, as of now, no one is allowed into the area, so he doesn't know the condition of his apartment. He has a huge redwood tree outside his front door, if tht thing caught embers, the place is surely toast. They stayed for awhile at the in-laws, but the smoke from fires down there are no good for their premature baby, so they are headed up to lake Tahoe. As a Social Security worker, he had just inherited a caseload of senior citizens to take care of, he was able to get some of them some physical help, but with the power being out, his boss told him to stay out of the offices. He was just a pup when the loma Prieta earthquake hit, and I missed the cypress structure collapse by minutes...that was quite surreal for me, I guess this is his turn.

...I truly feel for all affected by the fires, hurricanes, and all disasters...For me, I would think mighty hard about living in any area that is prone to such things...Most spend their entire lives working and building a place that they hope will always be there...What a shame to see and hear about the losses these folks have endured...

Yeah, there's that temptation to think: "Hey, it's just 'stuff', and stuff can be replaced."
But it's more than just "stuff".
It's peoples' homes (the place where they have lived and loved for years).
It's peoples' memories (memories attached to 'stuff', photos (a visual record of our memories), etc.)
It's peoples' writings, art that they have created ...
It's so much more than just 'stuff', you know.
And very, very little of it can be replaced.
