I have more meers than any other type of pipe in my collection and all smoke quite well. I dont smoke them nearly as much as my briars or cobs but I really enjoy them when I want a long thoughtful smoke.

Funny thing about my Meers ... I reserve them for special smokes. I'm not sure how or why this started but I only own three of them and one remains unsmoked to this day. Perhaps it's their delicate nature and my propensity to break things.

Lat sings in meers the same way Burley does in cobs for me. I have eight meers - three Baki, three Altinok and two IMP. Economics on meer are completely reverse to briars - Go straight to the top and never look back.

How about indifferent? They never quite click with me and I am always aware that I am smoking out of stone.

I like to think of it as millions of tiny, ancient crustaceans.

I have a half dozen meers. I don't smoke them much. No complaints, I guess I just prefer briar.

I have 13 meers which I mostly use for aros, reviewing, and English blends. I prefer briars.

How about indifferent? They never quite click with me and I am always aware that I am smoking out of stone. Does your indifference rise to the level of ambiguously ambivalent or ambivalently ambiguous?

...I go through "cycles"...every few months or so...don't smoke them anywhere except the house or to select Pow Wows I attend...and because of their nature I am more careful with them than any other pipe...I own 25 or so...

I'm not much into figural or artistic pipes. Considering my simple tastes, most if not all meers do not appeal to me.

These are my 2 Pioneer meers and the only ones I have. I can't remember smoking the calabash in the past 20 years and I rarely smoke the black meer. Nothing wrong with them, I just never reach for them.

I only have one and it's not a Baki. But I agree with 10furlongs that Latakia blends taste the best in it. I like smoking it but I need a nicer one. I think I'll be more into meers when I finally get a Baki.

As 'Sparks' said, I'm not into the huge funhouse aspect of meerschaums, nor could I smoke from a pipe fashioned after a skull, claw, or Turkish man's head in public without feeling like a complete fool. All that aside, I do enjoy the look of meerschaums made in the traditional pipe shapes and look forward to owning one at some point. I'll probably start with a meerschaum-lined briar or a calabash.

I have several meers from meer lined bulldogs to really old smooth apples, golf dimpled billiard, to antique bent, Astro Humgarian, figural, Calabash...love them all, they are all very good smokers.

Is that as massive as it looks or is it a perspective thing?

Funny I saw this thread. Just gave away 5 meers on another forum. A pay forward thing. Some one should start one here.

I love meers, especially the intricately carved ones. I love the artistry involved.
And every time I smoke one of my treasured meers, I find myself imagining the talented craftsman in Turkey or wherever as he carved my meer and wondering if he was imagining me as he made it.

I know Bacchus is the standard, but I wonder if I could get one of Dionysus? He's more of a party animal.

My ambivalence may be due to having no better than mid-grade (CAO, SMS, Figurals) pipes. For those really into meerschaum, top tier does seem to be the ne plus ultra, but by the same token that strikes me as the equivalent of saying you can't really enjoy a smoke in briar if your not invested in Dunhill or higher.
