When I think of all that's going on in the world these days I realize that nature can be destructive and deadly.I also know that it is very beautiful. The weather is cooling down here in Carolina.A few minutes ago I was sitting on the porch in the sun drinking coffee and smoking a bowl of 1-Q. I've smoked a lot of it over the years but these days it seems a bit bland.I think I'll go back to HGL Next time.It has more taste.About 2 feet from me a honey bee was on some flowers collecting pollen.A beautiful butterfly was floating by.Leaves were falling off the trees and my neighbor was blowing them out of his yard.I love nature.I guess it's just part of being from the country.I feel extremely lucky to have lived the life I have but I hope I don't live so long that I can't get out and enjoy nature and wonder at it's mysteries.

Pretty deep, , and I think you have a great handle on life. I hate winter but it makes spring and summer all that more special. As I get older I'm taking more time to notice and appreciate the subtle changes that the seasons bring. It's truly a marvelous world if you take the time to pay attention.

The transition into Autumn has always been my favorite and being appreciative / grateful shows reflection and humility.

This is what Larry was looking at this afternoon, his wife sent me a picture knowing I like flowers and to cheer me up.

I am sure it's pretty where you are, but you should see where I am! I will post pictures when I get home. Going to be at the Grand Canyon for the next couple of days.

The drive to the Grand Canyon is a beautiful sight this time of year. State route 180 between Flagstaff and Willams will be a sight to see. Also Northern Arizona can be a show of colors and temp changes. There is many wonders hidden up there.

Well said, p-u-f-f-y (Sorry I spelled it like that, but when I write your screen name the way that it's spelled, it comes out .) But anyway, yeah, I think that's one of the most awesome things about smoking a pipe is that it does so much to encourage us to "stop and smell the roses", so to speak.

Playing around in my backyard??
It would be nice to meet up for a smoke, if possible. I'm about an hour south of Flagstaff but also need to come up there this weekend to work on the house. Let me know if you've got any "downtime"!

Once my school loans are paid off and I can buy a house, I'm headed back to the country. I plan on settling back into the woods I grew up in. The city has been fun in my 20s, but the thrill of going to the bar has worn off- I miss other things. Living in the city for me, feels lonely and empty at this point.

Sunday is the end of the scheduled stuff. We will be planning what we want to do next. We have books, but we aren't sure yet. I would be happy to meet up with you. We will be in Flagstaff on Sunday.

We both grew up in the city, but we have also spent a lot of time outdoors. I had over 750 days and nights of camping in the Scouts. We moved outside of Houston 12 years ago and now we have a 2/3 acre heavily wooded lot around our house. We are in a private neighborhood at the end of the road and it's really quiet, but we are now surrounded by Houston. Getting away to the mountains is a requirement for us to continue.

The wife and I took the parlor car at the end of the train in 2006, it was really nice with the cocktails I imbibed in...I was ready to take on them hombre's...I had my 1911 and two mags in my satchel, they were shootin blanks! They spent an inordinate amount of time in the parlor car...since we paid premium rates, I guess they figured we were rich.

I've done the winter ride on that train as well. They call it the "Polar Express" ... Santa and friends show up instead of outlaws.

Yes, they did the holdup on the return ... cute little wild west show before the trip to the Canyon. We were in the Pullman car. Nothing like feeling the rhythm of the rails!

There's an interesting book called Death in the Grand Canyon. It puts the words "alone", "solo", "no water", etc. in bold print for each story. A lot of bad decisions involved with most of these deaths.

Antelope Canyon was worth the trip, although it was on slightly less busy than Walt Disney World.

Sitting outside on the steps by the motel laundry. It's about 60 with 18% humidity. Everyone else is running around in jacket and sweats while we are in our t-shirts and shorts. Still trying to lose the Houston heat built up over the summer.
