We're at our friends house on the back side of Sandia peak in New Mexico, and I realized that I left home with no tobacco. Friend says there's a small show up the road, and I sez ok, but I didn't have any hope. We went in and there's a wall of bongs, a wall of vaping stuff and a few pipes in a case. I ask if he has any pipe tobacco and he says "sure, in the walk in humidor! So I goes in and I see a bunch of cigars, and a 0couple of shelves of pipe tobacco. So I am looking at the pouch of stuff I never heard of or I did hear of but not good. Then I see a baggie with a familiar label. Lo and behold it's 8oz of P&C Classic Burley Kake! I asked him to give me a couple of ounces and he says that he has had it for 2 years since he opened up his shop and they changed the law so that he couldn't sell bulk tobacco anymore. It has to be a a sealed package covered with the warning labels. Well I says, "isn't there any way that I can help you out of your predicament seeing as how I am leaving the states in the morning and all?" So he sells me the bag for $15 and we are both happy. Now let me tell you. This tobacco has been aging for 2+years in the cigar humidor room, and there all kinds of grunge on the bag. But the tobacco is perfectly aged and is surpassingly wondrous as I sit on my friends porch smoking a bowl in my MM Patriot, while looking upon God's glorious mountains and trees that are i in the midst of a colorful change. Life is good!

A place like that just opened in my neighbor hood.Big signs outside saying pipe tobacco. When I checked the weight of the bags they weighed almost nothing compared to how much that much real pipe tobacco would weigh. It was roll your own tobacco being sold as pipe tobacco.I guess it's to avoid taxes.

Something about the phrase "I'd like a bowl of whatever you're smoking" seems apropos

Wow, that's awesome, Ron. Did he have any other bulk tobacco you could help him unload? Because I'd take pretty much anything he had at that price.

No, I think everything else he had that was labeled as pipe tobacco was really rolling tobacco. I didn't even see Captain Black or Borkum Riff or any other drugstore brands. He had about 20 pipes and 200 bongs. Probably around 50-75 different cigars. Full service vape.

The stars are aligned. The prophecy of the Burley Smoker has been fulfilled. Nice story.

As senior rooster ’round here, it’s my duty, and my pleasure, to instruct junior roosters in the ancient art of roostery...load the tobacco, before the hen boards, son! I ordered 4 tins of burley Kake a few years ago thinking it was a burley crumble kake...when I got it I was a bit bummed that it was an aromatic, but when I popped the tin, I quickly smoked another. Thank God they had that instead of Borkum Riff!
