Every year in the citizens center in my city they have what's called a business expo.Folks set up tables and give away free things with their company name on them.Of course they're there to try to sell something.I went there today.I especially liked the bakery table.I was talking to a fella there who is a high tech company rep.He told me a story that I find a bit hard to believe but here goes..He said that he had his phone laying on a table next to his sofa.He was talking with his wife about getting his daughter into a certain university. When he picked up his phone later there was an ad for that university. He's convinced that people can listen in on his phone..I doubt that he's right....What do you think?

I think he surfs the net with his phone. Targeted ads...

Depending on the phone and what providers he uses.If he has installed an ap to answer and call with voice commands.Look at the amazon and google thingys, they are listening all the time. They just respond at a given opening statement. Such as "Ok Google",triggers the device to follow the next command given verbaly. Also,a few years ago on the network news, they reported that folks with these smart TV's were being eavsdropped on by the service providers. So,I think his assumption is completely plausible.

I wouldn't doubt it. Maybe not someone on the other end actively listening, but word recognition software.
