Hi gang, I just received this Micoli pipe. It's a good sized billiard. Just curious if any of you have any of his or know much about him?

His pipes are highly regarded by those who have them. He's known for his quirky designs, much like Werner Mummert. A few years ago someone was selling a collection of Micoli pies for huge money. I don't recall the exact figure but is near $20,000. Here's a bit more info.

Nice looking piece! Bill Koytec from Western PA is the guy who collected that set Pa linked is still around (but in very rough shape). He always has the middle table on the back wall in Chicago with John Seiler.

Very nice. Craggy describes it well. Let us know how it smokes.

Great looking pipe, Ted. I always wanted a Micoli but when I was buying, the very few I saw were very expensive for me at the time, being a college student then. Enjoy it, man!

I bought a Micoli pipe back in the late 1980s for $50. I could never come to terms with it, as it just was too uncomfortable for me to hold. The style is very interesting, but it's not something I liked smoking. One of the pipes pictured looks like the one I had, but I have no regrets selling it.

I haven't smoked it yet, just thinking what I want to put in it...

He made some extremely nice and wild looking pipes and I have a couple myself and one like yours. His real name is Robert E. Burns and lived in Long Beach Cal. He was retired from pipe making but, I've found a site that sells his pipes as if they were still being made. Maybe his son took over or someones pulling someone's leg, never really looked into it.

I am privileged to own three of his pipes. Two, are freehands from the early 70's, and the third is an "E. Oslo", one of his early billiards he practiced his dremel tool on to create his freehand style. My pride and joy is posted on this forum on the "Picture of your pipes" thread, and also on his website. It is an estate pipe, unsmoked. Mic Burns is the founding father of the freehand movement in the US during the 70's. His creations are true works of art. Hope you enjoy his work as much as I do.

The shank is neat, but it triggers my trypophobia.
