Premise: Captain Black is available in pouch (the main ones). Would you pay more for it in a tin... same quantity?
Most of C&D. McC, MacB, and others come in tins. Would you pay less for them in pouch? Would usually be a couple bucks cheaper

Being a cheap old fart, I'd say no for both questions if ordering online. If out and about, needing tobacco I'd buy a pouch of tobacco and a tin only if the "tin art" is really cool. If premium tobaccos were available in pouches at the B&Ms, that would be cool too. Being that I live say 40 miles from the nearest B&M, I'd most likely do neither.

No to both, however interesting question.

I feel like pouch smokes usually stay moist longer with all their Cavendish and casing. I think something like Frog Morton would be too dry to smoke by the time one finished a pouch. I'd like to buy frog in bulk though. And maybe I'd buy a few more 'pouch smokes' for the shelf assuming I liked the tin art.

As you know pouch's last as long as tins. So in this case less is best.

I'm in the pouch camp. If it's less it rocks

If it was a nice resealable pouch and could be a couple dollars less than the tin, even for C&D and the like, I'd buy pouches to smoke, and tins to age at that point. Overall, I like it how it is because C&D bulk is what I buy and it's cheaper than it would be in a pouch, and you already have tins.

Pouches are easier to carry so that is why I take my tins and put some of the tinned tobacco in my red plaid rubber lined roll up pouch. My tins stack well for storage and I can take them off of the shelf and fondle them while planning the right circumstance to open one of them.I take pouches and put them in a drawer and if I have not made much progress in smoking them I open them up and jar the tobacco with the pouch label taped on the outside. For pouches in boxes I just stack them up neatly next to the tins.

Anyone that does not have enough flavor on its own gets put into the vanilla or cherry jar. I may buy some Paladin to help the cherry out. I have about two pounds of vanilla in a giant Dutch cookie can.

I will beg, borrow or steal tins. If I am buying tobacco, I may buy in a tin one time, unless like the Frog Morton's Cellar, it isn't available in pouch or bulk. Oh, the Stonehenge also only comes in tins as far as I know. But, one time to get the tin. I really don't smoke a lot, and have no idea why I have all the tobacco I do. I guess it is because I like to experiment and have an adventure. I don't like pouches, so when I get those, I repack the tobacco into jars. I do keep a selection of pouches for travel, but that isn't really an issue. I still am not sure about flavor versus dryness. I like to smoke dry tobacco, but it seems that letting a batch dry will lose flavor. Seems that if I can smell the tobacco in the container, it is losing flavor. So, for now, I seal tobacco in tins or jars, and only dry what I want to smoke right now.

I would not pay more for the tin, and would be happy paying less for the pouch. I have a black leather pouch with a drawstring top I always have tobacco in, particularly if it needs dying out. That way, I can pretend I'm an old west trapper padding about Montana and that's the only tobacco I have

Thanks! When Frito Lay was my client, I learned the percentage of your dollar at the grocery store that goes to packaging, and it was surprisingly high, like 75% or 80%. I actually subscribed to Packaging magazine, and it was actually interesting. Now I really notice packaging.
Go look at the generic Rice-A-Ronis vs the store brands'. The real one has much better packaging. Same with cans of veges. How many of us have bought wine by the highest ABV and the coolest label? For this post, would I pay more for cooler packaging, and less for inferior? No; tobacco be the same.
(Disclaimer: a cool label does makes wine taste better:)

I read trade magazines with gusto. I got more out of Playboy than the pictures. I got my inspiration for a mancave that never came about from their Entertainment Wall design back in 64. I am not consistent, though. Sometimes I don't mind paying more money if I like a seller or a package. Buying H&H Chatham Manor in tubs is worth extra to me than to have a bag laying around. On food I am more than willing to opt for the packaging and better quality than the generic. Noticing everything, as you seem to do, is the Sherlockian way.

Ha! Yes, I am. On a quick side note regarding Playboy, I had a buddies' grandpa who liked me one time give me like, twenty years' worth of Playboys. Those things were actually interesting! They were pretty thick, and with a lot of content that wasn't the mostly unclad girls. One time a buddy was coming over to play computer and board games, and I spent a couple hours pulling out ALL the centerfolds and taping them to the walls. He ended up making me take them down because he couldn't concentrate. He'd look at me, then the chess board, then around, and dammit Dave! It was pretty funny. I did say a cool label makes wine taste better, and there's some I don't want because of the label. Some wine producers don't understand the importance. Noticing as much as you can is a good way to be

I did what I do with most of my magazines - pull out the interesting ads. Ads were very salable some years ago. Some labels or teams or anything with foul names make me not a fan or buyer. You will not see me cheer the Diamondbacks. If I were alive a hundred and fifty years ago I would not have rooted for the Cleveland Spiders baseball team. I even taped my Billy Jack soundtrack LP shut because it opened up into a rattler. I would not listen to Herman's Hermits' song Rattler until my twin brother told me that it was about a train, not a snake.
