The size of pipe I choose often depends on what I'm doing. If out of the house and driving I often choose smaller pipes. While at home I usually choose larger pipes. Otherwise my choice is what pipe I feel like now.

I'm comfortable with a fairly wide range of preference from group 3 to 5. But for those less frequent shorter smokes or those involving strong nic flakes, for example, I reach for group 2s or even a little group 1 Dunnie that I have.

I've gone towards large pipes but hopefully lightweight ones. I like pots and bulldogs with some size to them.

Pocket pipes cause I'm insane and they clench well. Also they are good for driving and when your hands are busy working. As a codger they are what my tobacco like.

I like medium sized (DH grp. 4) pipes most of the time, something I can clench. I also like bigger pipes (grp. 5,6) for times when I know I can smoke for an hour or so. In addition, I have some small pipes (grp. 1-3) for quick smokes and sampling tobaccos.

I like larger pipes but smaller ones are perfect for club meetings or shows while trying several new-to-me blends in a short space of time.

Bigger the better an rusticated. I'm 6foot 3inches tall an about 300lbs. Wear a size 17 ring. With arthritis in my hands. I do own a lot of small ones an smoke them. Really love my cobs.

We're about the same height, though I haven't seen 300 for about 7 years or so. Most of my pipes were medium to large, but the two you gifted me are probably my most smoked pipes, even over my sav. A straight egg and a straight Rhodesian with thin shafts and smaller bowls. They are the easiest smoking pipes I have and create their own draw pace. I can't seem to overdo it. I still need to take pics of these things, darnit. I have pretty well committed these two to Five Brothers and straight burley or very burley forward blends.

I really like all sizes and shapes of pipes depending on what I want to smoke, what mood I'm in, and how long I want to smoke. Much like GRUMPY I tend to smoke larger bowls around the house and smaller-medium bowls out and about. For Burley I tend to prefer medium bowls, VA and VA pictures usually any size but lean toward larger. Twists I tend to like in medium to large bowls and plugs and fancy Virginia flakes typically in small to medium. Not always rules I follow just depends on the tobacco and everything I already said.

I like bigger pipes for aromatics. Medium for English and Balkans. Small for ropes and strong blends.

Say NO! Grin...
As for me, size matters. I like good old biguns and big old gooduns. Oh, that is a different subject isn't it. Well I enjoy them all.

No! This thread is starting to scare me. Pipers and their sick minds always thinking of racks and stem sizes.

Glad your enjoying them brother. You got any meers? Hey 6, yes, I have three that I found that I bought between twenty and thirty years ago. They wind up with my aros as they do hold the sweetness. Again, I need to take some pictures, but am still recovering from family coming over. Well, that's my excuse for today.

Currently, I tend to buy pipes around five inches in length. I don't mind a little shorter but I don't like to go much longer. For bowl size, I prefer a standard 1.5 inch by 0.75 inch. A little shallower and I'm fine, but I don't like to go any deeper than 1.5 inch.
I own pipes that fall outside of these specs, but most were purchased a long time ago before I settled on some preferences.

I lean towards larger pipes. I prefer a thick wall. Not too concerned about weight as I seldom clench. I do have a couple bulldogs for that

Usually 10 or 11 pipe "rotation". Making sure I have couple of each at Grp 4, medium, large & ridiculous large in each rotation. Works for me.
