A disclaimer:
(I purposely didn't take pictures of the tables of pipes...photography is not my strong suit, and there are many more capable people than I....included are links to a few of the carvers that I posted pictures of.)
The Pipe show was a lot of fun, and for the sake of redundancy...if you have never been to a pipe show, you don't know what you are missing out on. Compared to the fancy schmantzy places, the Palace Station may seem dated, but I think that is what makes it a great place to be...smoking is allowed most everywhere, and there are up to 100 smoking rooms available (book early if you want a smoking room). The staff was attentive, and you can dine very inexpensively...a couple tips:
A wise man once told me:
"Whenever staying at a hotel, be there the minute check in time occurs, when they say that your rooom is not ready, then tell them you are willing to accept an upgrade"...it works!
And...not all rooms come with refrigerators but if you need one...cough cough....one can be had without a surcharge for your medication that needs refrigeration.
I stayed medicated with Scottish Ale!
Friday night I attended a pre-show dinner hosted by Mat Guss who is from the Seattle Pipe Club, and his brother Jon who resides on the east coast. Sablebrush (jesse), did a fantastic job of navigating the Indian restaurant menu so as to accomodate the spice factor in that fare, he did a fantastic job...he is in the Blue shirt. Going clockwise is Sally Gottliebson...https://www.thepipetart.com/ Jiminks is to her left, and Jon Guss is next to Jim...truly a fine gentleman, as is his brother. The rest at the end of the table are SPC members that I did not get a chance to talk to.
I cannot remember the Greek pipemakers name on the left...(hey it's all Greek to me) turned out some fine pieces, him and his wife were a delightful couple...if Jim or Jesse have his website or name, maybe they can post it.
Jim, "Hamming" it up with Sally....Sally is a hoot, a really nice lady.
I highly recommend the restaurant, just a few miles from the strip.

On to the Venetian.....
Off to see the Fresco's and all the beauty that is the venetian hotel and Casino...the last one is Jon and Mat Guss...
Jon and Jesse graciously invited me up to a luxury suite someone had...incredible view, and the room was filled with younger pipe smokers...the blonde lady sitting against the wall is none other than Silver Gray, pipemaker...another delightful person to converse with.

And Silver Gray's not as attractive other half, Brad Pohlmann, maker of fine pipes.

Shane Ireland, Pipe buyer for Smokingpipes.com chatting it up with Jim....I heard that Jim was trying to trade a fake Rolex for a Chonschwitz pipe...it looks like Shane wasn't buying the story.
Waiting for the doors to open.
The left half of the show, that is Tonni Nielsen at the front table...he doesn't have his own website because he doesn't need to bother, his pipes are highy coveted.

I was looking at a beautiful calabash that had I believe five different woods, truly exquisite for $3,500.00 (if I recall correctly)...a braver soul than me picked it up and decided to remove the top...being new and snug fitting as it should be he looked like he was unscrewing a jar of spaghetti sauce, I cringed ....always hand it to a pipemaker, and ask them to do it....(is my self imposed rule).
The right side of the room....it is waayy smaller than Chicago, but there are tons of pipes in every price range...I literally saw GBD bulldog estates for $30 from an exhibitor from Denmark, but I had already spent my budget.....
From the back of the room towards the entrance, the open doors on the right, opens to a large room with plenty of tables and chairs, and wigback chairs along with a stocked bar and bartender.
There is a raffle every year, and the exhibitors are very generous as they support the show...for a dollar a ticket, you can buy a chance at the drawing. I bought eight tickets and hoped for the best. I had to leave the show a few hours before it ended and as I crammed in talking to people, I had just left Don Warren's table lusting after one of his pipes and had a nice chat with him, and I heard my name called out along with "Winner of a pipe"...it was a Don Warren Pipe!
Don's website is here:

That is the extent of the pictures I took of the show....back at the Venetian with the wife, I spotted a familiar sign.
My post from Facebook:
"Dunhill is a shadow of what they once were, they plan to rid themselves of the tobacco's in short order, and they look upon the pipes as an unnecessary evil I reckon...sad since that is what made them famous. I just came back from Vegas and at the Venetian, Dunhill had one small section in a larger storefront..the only thing smoking related was a lone cigarette lighter, the most interesting thing was a pair of crafted trunks. Either extreme care was taken in transportation, or that trip was cancelled, the pair of containers are pristine.
