This video shows exactly why I love to hunt. Not necessarily just to harvest an animal but to be able to observe such beautiful and resilient creatures doing everything they do while being mostly undisturbed by my presence. Im happiest when I can sit and observe an animal that I have no interest in harvesting just for the sheer joy of being there and seeing these kinds of moments. I've been watching the same button buck all season because at 6 months old hes far too young and small to put in the freezer.

I've been living out in the sticks since 78.It's all the housing going in just west of here that's pushing the wildlife into my backyard.I like seeing the deer, just wish the squirels would keep moving.Back when I went hunting every year,I probably missed more shots than I should have, simply because I forgot I was hunting.I laid in a ditch for over an hour watching a huge doe grazing about 30 yards from me.

I love animals. I give monthly to the shelter we got Willy the Gyp from. I cried when Old Yeller got shot. I cried when I thought Balloo the Bear was dead. Yet, when I see a deer in the woods all I can think of is sausage

Anymore I find a nice spot in the woods, pack a pipe and read a book. Last year was great, just before sundown I found myself in the midst of a herd of doe. They could smell the smoke and were running circles around me and going crazy, but they couldn't see me as I was standing in the crotch of a large split tree. haha This went on for an hour or so. I don't know if I would have shot a buck had one shown up.

...I gave-up hunting 26 years ago...I observe, enjoy Nature at its best, and find much Peace in that aspect... The only hunting I've really done is fishing. When I was a meat peddler we would process dear during deer season. Thus my love of the sausage. Even though I BS a lot, my last years are on a more spiritual quest, a horse I often fall off of. BTW, not sure how it is in Tenn, but here we have a mag called Missouri Conservationist. Free to inmates of Misery. Some really beautiful photos in the articles.

I forgot about that magazine David. I have been away from my original home since 1982. Miss it sometimes, but not the bugs and humidity.

...I gave-up hunting 26 years ago...I observe, enjoy Nature at its best, and find much Peace in that aspect... I haven't gone hunting in over ten years.Everyone I taught to shoot and/or hunt, the first lesson "don't shoot anything you're not willing to eat".Had a co-worker ask what if I had to shoot a person,,,,,I told him I'ld call the sheriff and give them 30 minutes before the Bar-B-Que starts. In all truth, the last seven years I've had more wildlife cross thru my yard than I ever saw hunting. It is extremely fasinating to watch them.

Once, my dog Ruko was chasing a small deer in an open field. I kept yelling at him to come back but that switch was long tripped. At one point, they both came running right at me. Just before they got there, Ruko took down the deer with a huge THUD!! I covered the deer with my body and forced him off it's throat. After about 3 minutes, the deer slowly stood up, looked me straight in the eyes and ran off. I'll never forget that day!

Friend of mine,a Sheriff's Deputy, was running code and hit one.It peeled the drivers quarter panel and hood clean off the car.Pushed the engine back eight inches into the cab. There wasn't anything left but the head and rear end of the deer. I drive a 95 Geo,and have had deer literally jump over the car.One night driving on a quarter inch of ice,I pulled into a small herd of doe and yearlings.Kind of fun watching them slip sliding as much as I was.And all of us me,my son, and the deer sh**ing bricks.
