So IBM just came out with a 50-cubit computer, the last one was 17-cubits. It looks really, really weird. There's nothing about this image my mind can attach to. There's a coily thing in the middle, but I did not know quantum computers looked like this. Awesome. Their brains came up with this.

Just what SkyNet needs. That's just for show. If you could see what makes it work, it wouldn't work. Makes sense, right?

Look at all that entanglement and superposition!

I thought a Qubit was a unit of measurement from the tip of Pharoh's middle finger to his elbow and used in construction of the Pyramids. Perhaps this machine was built by slaves?
OK. I will Google "Qubit".

I will Google "Qubit". That’s a Cubit...but to be honest I thought the same thing when I first read the thread title...

I'm a computer engineer and I’ve never heard of this term being used in tech before. I went and consulted Wikipedia and found that the correct term here is Qubit and not Cubit. Auto spell correct must have bit the OP. A Qubit is a Qunatum Bit. One Qubit can store the equivalent of 2 (traditional) Bits. So, IBM has made a computer that can store 100 bits of information. I would if it’s clock rate is measured in Hertz or Kilohertz.

It looks like a steampunk inspired chandelier.

I still think they just took a pic of the chandelier in the lobby and started collecting $$$ from investors.

Speedwise,if the bits are quantum entangled, as soon as the decisive bit converted, all of the other bits will have already been converted. So, infinitely fast. Only latency is in the hard that reads the bits. I think.

ronv is correct. It's not just 100 regular bits, they're entangled, so it can do all the calculations at the same time, not linearly like 2+2, and only then then 4÷2. That's why they can solve encryption algorithms, that would take the fastest current computers thousands of years to solve, in seconds.
I can't however, make sense of the steampunk chandelier look; I was expecting a box. That ain't no box.

No, it doesn't exist unless you look at it.
And it don't need no GPU. You can play Witcher 3, Skyrim and COD at the same time.

Or maybe you just cannot know where it is and what it is doing at the same time?

The only thing you DO know is what it's doing. Where it hides. How no one knows.
