You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. These things must happen, but the end is still to come.Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains

Hawking, whom I admire, but disagree on many points, said pretty much the same thing. You stick ten people in one room and fifteen people in another room and tell them to fart. The room with fifteen will be warmer. Less than three billion people when I discovered the Archies. 1.5 billion in 1900. Now it's seven billion. Hawking must have done the math. Disclaimer: This is about neither politics nor religion, nor even global climate. It's an earth sustenance issue with me

Most of things mentioned are something that has always happened. It is kinda funny that the one thing that we have absolute proof of is human caused earthquakes. Not only from fracking in OK, but many of our reservoirs have been created over fault lines. The naturally occurring droughts and floods have been flexing the faults because of the huge amount of weight that keeps changing in the reservoirs. However, these are relatively minor quakes. The big ones are simply plate tectonics. At that depth, humans have no influence. There are too many people, and that is creating real problems, but not enough people are volunteering to leave the planet. I will be getting off the bus soon enough. There's places that are not really all that suitable for human occupation, but they have nice weather and scenery. If you build your home on a sand bar, (Bolivar Peninsula), and it gets washed away by a hurricane, how legitimate are your complaints? New York land speculators developed Houston on a huge flood plain. We are reaping the results.

One thing that few are talking about is green is good for green (money). If I could build a windmill and cut out the elec company I would do it in a heartbeat. Some places tax solar panels because the utility companies suffer. my 300$/month heat bill in less than 100sq foot house makes me suffer. Instead of California taxing cow farts they should bottle it and market it. We have the ability to extract water from the elements within rocks. NASA guy proved that. Well, make a business out of it

The best I can do is live my life in a state of preparedness, spiritually and physically and being a good steward of what is entrusted to me for future generations, with a healthy dose of common sense and sceptism towards the snake oil salesman trying to clean my pockets for the perceived sake of saving humanity.

I have nothing in common with the future generations, which have decided that I am the cause of all their problems. I hope a comet hits Earth dead-center ASAP!

I couldn't have said it any better. Well, I am more waiting for Moses and Elijah to return. I look at youth (read Zuckerberg et al) and think he's nothing more than one of the "Greys" with flesh colored makeup on. Spelling suggester suggested Beiderbecke for Zuck. I'll take Bix any day

Don't be alarmed it is just faster news coverage. Wake me up on judgement day.

Our planet is a living thing. Earthquakes are like chiropractic adjustments and volcanic eruptions is the Earth farting. All those things have gone on for billions of years and will continue to do so. We're the visitors.

One example, on the positive side, that I can provide has been the recent spate of earthquakes in Mexico that at some level really brought local society in a way that was not there before. This has provided an impetus to tackle some larger scale problems we deal with locally. Now the major concern people are talking about is how much longer the feeling of solidarity will hold.

Sometimes it takes a second read to have a post hit home. Everything you said is common sense, and I do much of what you say, though my common sense flies out the window sometimes. Xuan used to get mad at my buying cases of goods, but that is the only way to get a price when you can't physically shop. Now she sees the benefit, though is still not happy knowing each delivery person by name

It makes more sense than ever to build up a storehouse of goods... as we become increasingly more dependent on technology, and the stores adopting JIT (just in time) warehousing, If 3 emp’s are detonated over the USA, basically everything is wiped out and shelves are emptied in a day. I have heard estimates that within a year 90% of Americans would be dead in a year..... not sure of that number, but it would certainly be catastrophic.
If money was no object, I would design a large fresh water holding tank inline with my house, and bug in for the duration.

Well I have a boatload of ammo, so maybe we can strike a deal!
With the advent of long term food products really getting much tastier, and economical when you figure price per meal, it is a nice cushion to be able to have if a person finds themselves unemployed or existing on disability for several months...

It's called "One Second After". I'd recommend it to anyone that has any concerns about how we would fare after such an event.

This Earth can easily sustain double but not without a massive change in our sustainable farming and fossil fuel use. We can do it, we did it with the first agricultural revolution, now we need huge vertical farming in Green House towns, solar, wind, etc. The Earth is always in constant change and always was long before us little bacteria could do any harm. The universe can and will randomly wipe the earth out any given random number of billions of years. We've had several ice ages, massive super volcanoes, floods, climate changes, poles literally changed, and it will all happen hundreds more times. Some will believe anything is a prophecy, see numbers meaning things, find faces in cheese sandwiches, and everything else, but sometimes things just happen. It's just nature. The earth was globally much warmer with much more green house gas that caused gigantism around the dinosaurs. Very high CO2, heat, and humidity.

I just read the cliff notes.... sadly, it seems very feasible especially at the end when you read that Iran and N Korea do China’s bidding. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Second_After

One rhetorical question would be what is the famine that is referred to. I believe it can be found in the minor prophets. Specifically Amos 8:11. Also, it states that these are the beginnings of birth pains. So, what is coming after the beginnings of birth pains? (again, a rhetorical question. The answers can be found for those looking.)

It's not that I disagree with you but as one of those bacterias living on this planet I kind of have a lot riding on our particular strain either avoiding a change in conditions or adapting to them...or finding the cheapest balance between those two.
