I've been a pipe smoker for a good many years,so you would think that smoke wouldn't bother me.Pipe smoke doesn't. When I get around cigarette smoke though I start sneezing. Is it a common thing,or am I just alone in this?

Cigarette smoke smells like crap.
I drive a rig 12-14 hours a day and I am the primary driver, I smoke with the driver window cracked and turn recirc to off position when running the A/C or heater. I typically smoke only Virginia and burley blends and non smokers say that it is inoffensive, some actually think it pleasant.
By virtue of it being a “smoking” vehicle, the smoking day drivers when bidding, want to bid to drive my truck.... I wish I could make it a pipe smoking only truck, but that dog don’t hunt with non pipe smoking management.
To be fair, we do have a few cigarette smoking day drivers that have trucks where smoke smell is barely perceptible because they follow the above practices, but they are the exception.
I do have an informational pow-wow with a smoker on how we proceed when a new one comes in, so it all works out. On our company forum we recently had a few non smokers complain about smoking vehicles and how it adversely affects them, to which the corporate moderator/ HR person said that they could make all vehicles non smoking, but the only enforceable way would be to put cameras mounted in the truck where management could constantly watch the drivers.😲
The complainers immediately realized that they were taking it somewhere they really didn’t want to go....
I say all this in case others here work for a company with fleet vehicles that currently allow smoking, cigarette smoke really screws up a vehicle, but it can really be minimized if people are willing to considerately think it through and work with each other.

I loaned my CRX to a buddy for two weeks once, and he chain smoked the whole time and didn't even crack the windows. Took six months for the smell to go.

Reminds me of a recent “situation”. I was at a casino and pulled out my pipe to pack, and just had it in my mouth while digging out my baccy pouch. A woman probably 30 feet away, cashed out and walked by screaming “stinking pipes!” I laughed, she stopped to look at me and I calmy told her, sorry lady but this isn’t even lit”. She made a “humph” sound and stormed away while I sat there laughing. Never mind 80% of the folks around smoking cigs and cigars. Normally I get compliments about how much better my pipe smells compared to cigs, especially by the employees at the Casino.

Pipes and cigars are no longer allowed in the casinos around here ... just all the coffin nails you can pound. It's a shame.

Often on cruise liners, cigarette smoking is allowed in outside bars an designated areas around the exterior of the ship. Pipe and cigar smoking is confined to a small room. When the weather is too hot or it is raining, all the cig smokers come to that room. There is no need to light up when you enter; just inhale deeply and leave. You've got your fix.

As a disclaimer, I smoker Marlboro Reds for approximately 25 years. I dislike their smell now and have always disliked cigars equally. As for cigarettes, I'm inclined to blame it on the chemicals used to treat cigarette tobacco. My palate isn't in tune with the leaf used to roll cigars; however, I can understand why it appeals to others.

It was likely the cigars that prompted it but the pipes got lumped in with them. Meanwhile, they're pumping in an obnoxious, fake vanilla scent to help cover up the cigs ... brilliant. cl

Cigarette smokers are persecuted enough in this society and I am not going to add to it in a smoking forum.

I have only visited a couple down here in Phoenix, and they allowed smoking everywhere. Maybe it is a matter of them being the only game in town so they took that route up there?

At the last AZ Pipe Club meeting, one of the employees was smoking a really nice cigar. I stopped him at least twice to comment on what a great smell it had ... can't say that for all of them.

Darrin, the next time I see you i'm going to try to remember to get some of those cigar trimmings from you. That cigar leaf plug you made, I smoked a bit of it. It wasn't bad but,it needs something added. As for the cigarette smoke I don't like the smell of it. Even when I smoked cigs I didn't like the smell. As for the Casino it might be it is harder to cover the smell of strong cigars so they ban both pipes and cigars.

You got it! I agree that the Scented Cigar Plug on it's own is very one dimensional ... it's a single variety of cigar leaf.
Did you grab some of that Brightleaf / Perique Flake too? They are better mixed together than on their own.
What is that guys name, by the way, that was poking fun at us and smoking his cigar? He cracked me up!

Cigarette smoke mostly stnks from smelling the burning paper. When you dump the tobacco our of a cig and smoke it in a pipe minus the paper, it smells like Burley/VA tobacco. This also depends on the quality of the cigarette. A good surefire way to test this theory is with Carter Hall. When I smoke Carter Hall in a pipe in a room, it smells of mildly sweet lingering OTC Burley and then quickly fades to stale smoke. As soon as my wife rolls Carter Hall in a ZigZag rolling paper and lights it, it smells just like a Camel Light. No kidding.

"Did you grab some of that Brightleaf / Perique Flake too? They are better mixed together than on their own." Yes I did smoking a bowl now and find it enjoyable. "What is that guys name, by the way, that was poking fun at us and smoking his cigar? He cracked me up! " His name is Greg, he does that every time I go in.

Though I hate to admit it, I have been smoking cigarettes for a long time. I always seem to be in the process of quitting but just have trouble getting over the hump.
This last effort, without any outside help, has got me from 2 packs a day to about 3 packs a week, so I'm happy with my progress.
That being said, I'm not a big fan of the smell of them. There is that initial whiff when you haven't had one in awhile that is glorious, but in general, the smell on your clothes, hands, hair, etc. is not appealing.

As an ex-cigarette smoker, I can't stand the smell and regardless of what people say, the second-smoke smoke does affect me. I can feel that stinging harshness in my throat and lungs.
So when people complain about pipe or cigar smoke, I understand, which is why I rarely smoke around humans.

I have been a cigarette smoker for over thirty years, and a pipe and cigar smoker for about twenty.I've always tried to be polite to others about my habit.I stand down wind,or try to put a great distance from those who would be offended. I've never lit a cigarette in the smoking lounges. And I never complained about the person who took a bath in colonge, aftershave,or perfume. I can't stand to be in a smoke filled room,no matter the source. I have to have ventilation.I smoke in my car with a window cracked open. And the only job I had that was in a fleet vehicle, the owner decided not to push the issue about my smoking, since a third of his licence was in my name.
