Well, folks, it's Thanksgiving and you know what that means. So, while you're stuffing yourselves with turkey, dressing, ham, pecan pie, and whatever else is on the table, don't forget that you or somebody you might know might have some garbage to dispose of. And if you do, here's your yearly warning not to dump it out with anything that has your name on it, or you just might find yourselves in the same situation Arlo was in all those years ago. Happy Thanksgiving to everybody, and if you're eating out today, remember you can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant ('ceptin' Alice).

Love that, Jim. Happy Thanksgiving. I saw the movie when it came out. And, I think the whole movie is on YouTube as well.

Thanks you guys. I am downloading the movie now. I didn't realize it was on youtube. I too saw it when it was 'fresh'.

I have been to the Guthrie Center in Great Barrington, MA (The Church). They serve free meals every Wed and I am sure they had a great big meal today.

I still want to know what the third version of the song is. Arlo has said that there are three versions and I’ve only heard two. The most well known version is the original with the garbage, trial, and draft induction. The second version that I have heard is the one with the multi-colored cockroach story.
In a modern live recording of the original version, Arlo makes the interesting observation that the length of the original album recording of Alice's Restaurant is precisely the length of time of one of the gaps in the tapes from Nixon's Oval Office. Think about it...

Think about it... Actually, the first one wasn't put on record. It was an ad for Alice's restaurant along with other talk that is different from the first recorded version you know. It was broadcast on a New York radio station; no mention of the garbage or draft as neither event had happened yet. I think I know where my copy is, and I'll let you know if I can find it.

When I lived in Campbell California with my brother in 1980, the dumpster trash stall at our apartment was a mess, and required someone to clean it out. My brother had a pickup and agreed to do it for a fee, but the only time to take it was after work, and the dump was closed. He was pissed off and dumped it on the side of the road leading to the dump.... pretty sure there was an envelope in there somewhere, but it never came back on him.
Not one of his more brilliant moments.
