The Arizona pipe club will be meeting at Big Sticks Fine Cigars on Saturday, December 9th form 1 PM to 5 PM, last month was our best meeting so far, and things look to be progressing nicely! Attending will be several people with decades of experience in all things pipes, and some people with just a few years doing so. Wherever you are at, feel free to join us for good conversation and a good time to expose yourself to new tobacco's and maybe some useful advice in your piping journey.

Sounds good I'll drive up from Green Valley for the afternoon. Looks like Big Sticks Fine Cigars is near one of my PHX favorites stops Portillo's!

Look forward to meeting you Dave!
Over the last couple of weeks, we gained a few attendees, and today I got a couple emails from young interested guys... a demographic we just admitted to needing to cultivate.
Social media/ and website presence is ataeting to pay off.
I am going to try and get Ernie Markel pipemaker to show up.

Well I won't help skew the demo younger but good luck with it. Our little pipe club had no problem getting young guys to show up for a free tin but never to return. We finally had to disband when our shop decided we were not spending enough money for him to stay open one evening a month. I really miss our meetings.

I heard Shaintiques promote a pipe club event where they offered free tins of tobacco. Some guys showed up, asked where their free tin was because they had other goings on.
I suggested saving empty tins, and harvesting cigar butts from thesmoke shop and rubbing it out to fill the tins with “He man private reserve” tobaccco for guys like that in the future.😉
I have gifted Pipes, tobacco’s, tampers, cleaners, etc.. in an effort to get co-workers and such interested. I quickly came to the conclusion that people need to have skin in the game if they are really interested, freebies are too easy to say yes to.
I had a discussion with several people from LA at the WCPS, and I was amazed that there was no pipe club of any sort, especially since so many hailed from So-Cal. The photographer of the event told me that nobody wanted to head it up... (it does look like smoking facilities are getting scarce though in Ca.)
Most of our guys are pretty good at buying something with every visit... really easy to do since they sell beer and wine, even then, I always buy a tin or two that I really don’t need.

For years before Altadis sold Sutliff (including traditional pipe tobacco's voice in DC who was "downsized" after the sale)to MacBaren they would send out cases of tins to clubs every month. Our clubs president would have been buried if he did get rid of it. As far as I know LA does have an active club of mostly younger smokers. I know they hosted the Dagner family at their BBQ last summer. They came to the WCPS in force for a couple of years but they haven't returned. The SD Pipe Club is the one on hold because the leader moved to work for Smokingpipes and nobody else wants the job.

Whats the penalty if one shows up after 2? Your only allowed to fill your pipe from the cigar ashtray and leaving an aged tin of Penzance on the table?😄

Fingers crossed but no promises!
Looks like I have to go to Flagstaff to finish up the house so that the next set of renters can move in by the 15th.
I thought the step-son and wife took care of this last week but ... well ... you know.

We had a good time, three of our four charter members were there, but we missed a couple of our regular attendees, but DaveinLAX and isett2860 (Charlie) from Wisconsin and Chicago respectively showed up. Dave is the big cat on the left, Charlie on the right...that bag had a bevy of beauties in it.... I ignorantly assumed DaveinLAX meant La international airport LAX is a witty way of abbreviating Lacrosse WI. We look forward to seeing them as they fly in and out of the southwest...it is really good to see forum members from around the country..be sure to give us a shout if any of you all come near.

Thanks to the club! I had a good time and felt welcome. I enjoyed visiting with the guys, time flew by and I was surprised that it was dark when I left. I hope to return for the January meeting before I head back north.
