What about those of us who sometimes need these meds? After my kidney was removed, I only received enough for 2 days. I obviously survived, but I felt like I suffered a lot of unnecessary pain. When I had leg surgery in 2007, I had enough for a month. I was able to work from home and I didn't have any problems tapering off. What about kidney stones?

Brad and Ron have it right. This is the same as all of the other 'socal' issues. Instead of dealing with the problem, we treat the symptoms. Sigh. I got a huge amount of pain meds after my back surgery. The stuff makes me sick. I told the doc. Still got them.
My wife has terrible back pain from scoliosis and can't get anything for it. She has stomach ulcers now because the doctor 'prescribed' huge doses of Aleve. Sigh again...

It is really bad with industrial claims, since they are paying the freight, they dictate to the doctors what they will prescribe. A co-worker practically lost a finger and all they would prescribe him was a step above over the counter medicine.

I already have damaged my remaining kidney with NSAIDS. I can never take them again. I get by with Tylenol and asperin.

I have lost count of the friends dead over oxycontin. They got hurt in Iraq and Afghanistan and come home addicted to this shite. When they can't get it some go looking for heroin to make the hurt go away. Yeah I feel for the people can't get help with their pain, but the hurt over the loss of buddies never goes away.

Seen it too many times myself and is a big reason I support Medical THC ... Big Pharma doesn't want you to know about that, though.

I suspect that in the next couple of years we will hear about the dangers of NSAIDS. They are very damaging to the kidney and stomach. Class action lawsuits are imminent.

Nasty stuff that ruins lives in the name of mega-profits for Big Pharma. Absolutely shameful when profits are put before people. This is the kind of stuff the government needs to be regulating and overseeing - not pipe tobacco and who uses what bathroom.

I see more days in pain from Arthritis, Gout and lumbar pain than with out. For some reason I cannot get myself to take pills for it. Also I a hard time getting myself to do any of the Medical THC. I had a problem with narcotics once and don't want to return down that road. So I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't. Think I'll go find a bowl of Cask #4 and relax. Catch you on the flipside.

I used to work with a guy that ate Motrin after work to deal with inflammation issues, unfortunately he drank a lot of beer at the same time... cannot remember if it was kidneys or liver, but it was destroyed.
Even now, a lot of people are ignorant about the dangers...I don’t think the doctors have a clue, once a person starts taking half a dozen daily medications, what the potential problem can be. Adults need to take ownership of their own health, and do their own homework. My wife had a doctor that thought that every malady had a solution in a pill... that was a tough lesson, that has had long term consequences.
I am pretty conservative on what I take.

Trailboss, the combination of alcohol and NSAIDS is damaging to the liver as well as the kidneys. I too used to eat them by the handful. Luckily, I wasn't drinking enough to hurt my liver. We shop for doctors who respect or wishes. And we know a lot about medicine.

Drink lots of coffee. Four cups a day help keep the liver washed. I figure that's the only reason I am alive. As to NSAIDS, they are more dangerous than opioids. I have had two of my MD's agree. Heart attacks, Liver, Kidney (tylenol), Ulcers. Opioids are addictive, but only to some. I have my MD prescribe a month's worth and it takes me over a year to use them. Last time he couldn't do it over the phone. Since I can't go anywhere my MD had to personally drive the script to Walgreen's because of new regs. That's total BS

11 or 12 years ago I separated my ribs goofing off in a bar. I was prescribed Oxycotin for the pain. I hated it. I had no idea where I was most of the time. My wife and I were just seeing each other at the time. She came over quite a bit to make sure I was eating and such.
