I spent 4 hours today putting lights outside. My wife and I love Christmas. She decorates inside and I do the outside.I'm 75 years old now. I've had a shoulder and a hip replaced so its getting to be a chore.I don 't know how much longer I can keep doing it.A few more years I hope.My son bought me a timer last year so at least I don't have to go out and unplug them any more. They look really pretty once they're up and on.I'll be really be glad to hit the hay tonight though.

That's why God made good son-in-laws. He will be climbing on the roof to put the outside lights up tonight. I put the tree up yesterday (sans ornaments) and will put up the wife's Christmas Village display tonight. It's about 15 feet long.
I asked the oldest grand daughter (9) if we could just do the tree with lights and no ornaments.
I got yelled at.

I do nothing with lights outside. I put a wreath on the door that a spotlight hits. I used to put lights around outside. My wife would tell me right after Thanksgiving to get the lights on stuff while the weather was nice. I have some not so fond memories of her and my daughter watching me take them down from the front window while there was snow on the ground and the wind chill at about 0°F. Over time I got smart and as light strings died I tossed them until there were no more working lights.

My wife and daughters decorate the heck out of the inside of the house, the windows, front door and a tree. We stopped buying real trees years ago and I stopped hanging lights long ago. We go for a drive and check out the better light displays. We haven't missed the lights or the mess of a cut tree.
