The Peter Stokkebye Luxury Flakes get a lot of praise, and for good reason. I was also checking out the Newminster equivalents and am puzzled. I can't figure out the counterpart to the PS Luxury Twist Flake, which is the one of the three that has no Perique. I'm assuming the Newminster No.400 Superior Navy Flake corresponds to the PS Luxury Navy Flake, and the No. 403 Superior Round Slices to the Luxury Bullseye Flake.

The Newminster 400 is pretty different from the PS LTF ... it's a little deeper like sweet brown bread and honey. That "Danish" style treatment if you know what I mean. The #403 is a similar tasting Virginia with a DFK core instead of Perique. So, no real equivalents there. All four have a solid spot in my cellar and all greatly improve with age.

I have been eyeballing the Newminster flakes and mow I have reason to add that to my stack of jars!

I really enjoy the Newminster Superior Round Slices 403 - to my tastes when well aged it presents as a combined variant to Strang and the Three Nuns VaPer, making #403 a real win win!

Glad to see my perception receive validation, I think that my taste buds are a ragtag shell of what they once were having been assaulted by environmental factors. Having said that, I have noticed that all of the blends spoken of by Les, have improved after just a couple of years of age. I know that at a certain number of years, there are diminishing returns from cellaring. However, I am certainly going to enjoy the journey.
