At 7:15 AM on Saturday I was reading the paper and having my breakfast cigar when all of a sudden the sunlight disappeared. When I stepped out side the garage I saw the reason. A hot air balloon was struggling to keep above the houses. The people in the basket were firing the gas jets at full blast to stay aloft but clearing the roof tops by maybe 25 feet. I guess they were trying to get to the cornfields about one half mile from our houses. The interesting thing is that Lehigh Valley International Airport had planes taking off in the direction of the balloon. Fortunately, nothing happened. I should have called 911 but was so taken aback that the balloon was gone by the time the thought struck me.

Maybe they were trying to be a drone? I keep my distance from these things. All kinds of stuff can go wrong. Like sailing with no rudder, but in 3 dimensions, and a fire on the deck.

I was at work one day, Exxon Chemical Plant and we saw the same thing, a big NO NO, you can't flyover a Plant, on the smoking bench looking North it was comeing lower and lower, finally very bright flashes and we realized they had hit Electrical Transformers, I believe no one survived. That day I made a promise, the only ballon for TBrad would be a party ballon.

HA! They apparently underestimated the substantial breakfasts they surely must've had.
Also, what is the temp out your way? Ballooning definitely seems like a hobby I would not pursue past early fall. haha

Wow ... that's really low! They fly around here all the time for the Sedona tourists but not like that!

Seems they misjudged the thermals or wasn't paying attention. Wonder what the time a would be.
Or were they supposed to be a moving target for the local archery group.

Well, it was 27° at the time, no wind to speak of. I don't know when they started, or from where, but expecting any kind of thermals at dawn in the cold is bad judgement in my mind. I'm trying t find out what happened. Noting in the local news so far.

They must be having a tough time heating the air in that balloon. Must be cold in PA.
