One thing most of us share is a love for beautiful and functional pipes. Many of us are aware of the hours upon hours a pipe maker puts into shaping, drilling and sanding a pipe in order to turn it into the perfect specimen to feed our PAD. What we may not be aware of the same amount of time, skill and love that goes into that little block of wood long before it touches the hand our a pipe maker.
Briar is a pretty amazing substance when you think about it. It can handle high heat for extended periods of time, and if treated well can last decades. There are thousands of pipes out in the world that are 50, 75, 100 years old and that's not even factoring in the age of that little piece of wood that makes it all happen. Whomever though to dig up a bush on the side of a mountain and use the root burl to make a device to smoke tobacco in was a bit whacky... but thank goodness he did.
