Sometimes I wonder who names some of these great many new blend coming out these days. How do they come up with them.I think maybe they write a bunch of names on a wall and throw darts and see what they hit. They should let me name some of them.I think I could probably do a better job.I suppose in some way it has to do with marketing. It's just that some of them seem pretty silly to me.That's my opinion. With it and 6 bucks you can get one of those fancy coffees with whipped cream in it.

Some blenders are definitely more imaginative than others. Haha I bet you're right though. I bet sometimes they just pull names outta of a hat.

I just replied to a thread on Reddit and I said the way I would name mixtures is with a number. It very silly but I think I avoided some of C&D's mixtures because of the names and art.

I rename many of mine, the code being on the bottom of my posts. Herald Square? Grew up listening to George M. Cohan songs Boston Blackie? Love the movies Harold's Club? Reno. My dad's company, which I retired from, printed their whiskey labels and I loved the art. It goes on, but most of them are named after deco dreams and bygone memories

I'll admit to avoiding blends (e.g. racoon whatever and anything purposely misspelt)because of their names and being drawn to others because of their tin art (e.g. Holiday, Durbar, and Apertif).

I am exactly the same way and chose Aperitif on it's art alone. Holiday is another one that sort of sounds great. Good stuff, if not great

With some blends, I think the blenders sit around drinking until they get drunk and then come up with a name.
The ones that get me are geographic names that have nothing really in common to the flavor and aroma of the tobacco.

They take the names that have been rejected for racehorses and boy bands.

While i have to agree that a lot of names are screwy, I was drawn to C&D Byzantium and Odessa because I figured they would be solid orientals. They didn't disappoint. Sucked me in, I have pounds of them.

I'm the opposite. When I shop for new tobaccos, I skip over stuff like 1Q etc because it just doesn't catch my attention. Honestly, tin art and presentation is responsible for selling me my first tin of many blend. I think we have a clear case of left-brain vs right-brain. haha

I have not tried it (and maybe won't because I have similar blends), but I can tell by the name Byzantium what they are getting at. Midnight Drive very similar in proper naming.

I don't care for companies using numbering, Dunhill is an exception because it doesn't comprise most of their blends that are available now.
Greg Pease...having lived in the bay area, I get him using names like "union square" "fillmore' and such in his Fog city blends.
Mark Ryan told me that he got the name "cockstong", because when he started operating in louisiana, it was a common thing to hear someone say..."look at that boy, he is cockstrong!"...some people infer that it has a sexual connotation, but if you have lived in the south, you know better.
I really don't depend on tin art, or names though...I look at the components contained within a blend to make my choice on what I buy...If i see a blend that piques my interest based on the genre's of tobacco's I like and it has been out for awhile, I head to tobaccoreviews.com and if it has a decent rating, generally I like it.
Gotta admit though, I like Mary's artwork on McClelland blends.

I have to admit that I have bought a couple of tins for the tin art, but only one for the name. Orange Passion. It is a a very high quality suck. I bought Squadron Leader for the tin art.

the first time I ordered the Tsuge Gods series, it was a combination of names, tin art, and descriptions.
when I come up with my blend names, I try to use sarcasm and satire because I'm a bit of a jerkface. I like to incorporate my sense of humor into my blends the same way I have done with my beers for the last 18 years. if any of y'all have seen my beer review videos on YouTube, you'll see how seriousness takes a back seat. sometimes I just shove it in the trunk and drive down a bumpy gravel road.

C&D has to have some of the best blend names and tin art out there. Don't most C&D blends just repeat the same ocre colored tin with the C&D square logo?

I wouldn't do it again if it was free.

This is the only thing that matters to me along with whether or not I like the brand / blender that put it out.
I do have a few favorite reviewers that seem to echo my tastes and will check to see if they have tried it.

I just replied to a thread on Reddit and I said the way I would name mixtures is with a number. It very silly but I think I avoided some of C&D's mixtures because of the names and art. That's what I sometimes do. My Lat#9 is excellent tasting. Lats #1-8 were not quite right. Others, I try to name them in a way that I can remember what is in them (without looking for my notes that are probably lost). For instance: Little Virgin is a combo of Little Dutch tobacco and Virginia. Sweet Little Virgin would be the same blend but with the addition of Deer's Tongue. I realize I could have named the latter "Little Virgin's Tongue" but figured that was taking me down a slippery slope... no pun intended.
