I am pretty well settled in my tobacco and pipe likes and dislikes and have some thoughts:
Though I have some of the higher note blends, that are neither OTC or Codger, in bulk I am very happy with some blends that may not seem special
Admiral's Choice Black & Gold and Vanilla both have some great smoking flavors. You cannot beat the price, except by Virginia Gold, though VG is not quite as good overall. Still, their Black and Gold is a nice smoke.
Above that is Smoker's Pride Black Cavendish. This seems to have more flavor than their vanilla. Can't figure out why, but it too, is a thoroughly pleasant smoke. Vanilla is below Admiral's Choice, maybe tied with VG.
Low Country tobaccos are all nice, but they lack a few specific blends I would like. Hazelnut beats every other Hazelnut out there.
Captain Black Royal is above many of the other high note blends. Unfortunately you really pay for this OTC Codger.
Several of these tobaccos keep me going to WV Smokeshop, more so because of the elusive Whitehall Black Tie, which beats the snot out of every plain BC blend out there
Five Brothers. Not sure if this is OTC or Codger, but it's in a 1.25 ounce pack, so I list it thus. Those who are in on this know what it is. Pure tobacco, no frills. Still on the nick hit from earlier.
Now for some pipes. I love my authors, but I love Cobs and some Codger pipes, like my Yello Boles. The one I received today sips as good as the two unidentified ones James Scrooge gifted me. My Ukrainian pear wood pipes, the stained ones, smoke well, too. That is not to say I don't appreciate when I light up my Sav or Rossi, but there is almost a tad more bit of enjoyment knowing I paid 25$ for the Yello Bole and it is a great smoke.
rekamepip gave me a custom hardwood poker. That and the MM pokers smoke flawlessly.
Winston Smith said that if there was any hope it is in the Proles. Well, this Prole will let "The Party" have their lofty choices. Remember: Oceania was always at war with East Asia. And that's no DoubleSpeak

I'm smoking some pedestrian year 1936 Briggs that was gifted to me by our resident pedestrian. Yeah, it's tough times for me!

When I saw the title "Revenge of the Pedestrians", the first thought that came to my mind was durn kids walking in the street & not moving for cars.

Actually, just a desire to get a sort of review on some blends even less considered than codgers. I haven't done formal reviews since my book on Anna May Wong. Too formal. Still, there are so many of these blends very worthy. I tried some Black&Gold blends because they were cheap, on sale at less than 60 cents a pound. Had no idea about Black&Gold. Too complex for my grey matter. However, these cheapo blends rock. I just can't say it as well as Jim, PeterD, PipeStud, The Truculent One and others that do formal reviews. I am happy to have such a place to post these mere pedestrian thoughts of mine

Captain Black Royal is above many of the other high note blends. Unfortunately you really pay for this OTC Codger. Capt Black Royal is packaged 1Q. I think all the other Capt. Black have bulk equivalents too.

As to paying for it I got it cheaper per ounce or pound than Lane Bulk. Since I am done buying anything for five or ten years the prices can go up all they want. I'll be dead by then

Good stuff, David. To me, it's just all about the Tobacco. I love tons of tobaccos from Sutliff's, C&D bulks are my main Staples, and my favorites of SG or GH & Co. I order in bulk so they're reasonably priced for 500 grams(17 ounces). I love plain tobacco OTCs like Smokers Pride Rich Taste and similar if it has no humectant. I'm the same way with pipes, David. I don't own any pipes higher than $60-70 purchase price, plus tax, and I have a lot of pipes. I've gotten tons at thrifts, you'll see me regularly smoking my grandfather's and my wife's grandfather's pipes, and tons of cobs. Some of the really hard to obtain tobaccos are great, but my favorites are pretty well all always available. Thanks for the posting, I liked it. You gotta smoke what you like! Like I say, I just don't get along with goopy black cavendish stuff but I smoke and try anything. I even smoked what JimInks considers the worst tobacco he's ever smoked. (The mug was tryina' put me in wit da fishes!)
