The question has come up in this forum's chat room about whether or not a morta can be ghosted with a pipe tobacco. As I've no experience with mortas, I don't know the answer. Has anybody ever ghosted a morta with pipe tobacco?

I had to look up what it was. All I got was a story about the Ghost of Morta Della, but I figured it was a lot of baloney so I didn't post it. Oooops.
Seriously, I did look it up and now I want one, darn you. Anyway, we need this one to keep going for fascination purposes
Edit - Amazon reviewer of a Brog Bog is that it does not soak in (his words)

I have 2 Morta pipes. A Vermont Freehand Billiard and a Don Warren Prince. Both see a lot of action, I have smoked everything in them from Aros to English and I have not noticed any ghosting at all. However, I don’t Smoke baccy that is known to be a heavy ghost (M79, Lakeland’s etc). Just my experience.

If someone damaged theirs beyond repair, I propose we do a ghost mortem examination.

I have one morta by local carver Jason Zeiner. So far it's taken everything with no ghosting whatsoever. I've smoked lat blends, Lakelands and British plug in it with no noticeable aftertaste.

eek! There's Morta ghosting than meets the eye. That's why it's such a difficult problem to solve.

Beautiful Morta’s, guys!
From what I have gathered, Becker was THE GUY to buy a Morta from... stellar reputation.

I have a Becker, a Davorin, and a Warren. I smoke everything in them and I haven't noticed any ghosting. That doesn't mean that I am going to smoke Captain Black Grape in the Paolo Becker. I like that they don't require any break in. They add a "warmth" to the smoke that is lacking in ceramic pipes, and meerschaum always seems to change and dull the flavor of the tobaccos for me. Morta has none of these issues. The only problem is that morta is oak, and can never be as beautiful as briar.

First off, James, you don't have a morta!! I have a Rick Black and a John Hines never had a ghost show up, but then ghosts don't usually show themselves.

I agree that Morta doesn't ghost. They are also slow to cake. My Mimmo Provenzano is the driest smoking pipe I have ever experienced.

I've never smoked a morta but this thread has been educational. I know Don Warren makes some and I've taken notes from the thread. Are there any others y'all would recommend?

I had a dream that trailboss was hauling a truckload of Morta pipes. As he rounded a corner, the truck sank into a section of the road they were repairing and it was full of concrete. We rushed to get the truck out but the concrete had hardened and the Rig o' Mortas had set in.
