I haven’t been on a couple of forums for quite some time (more like the last four to five months) due to getting our old home in Valencia, CA ready to place on the market for sale, and searching for a home in Bend, OR. Well, the sale of our old home and the purchase of the old home went off without a hitch (pretty much…), and on October 19th, my family and I landed squarely on the NE side of Bend, OR. Since, we are getting somewhat settled-in, no more moving boxes lying about, and with Xmas rapidly approaching, I thought it might be a great time to get off my butt and introduce myself. As some of you may know me by my old name (MarkinCA), you have probably seen me over at another pipe forum and a cigar forum. A conversation with a “Senior Samurai of Smoke” member had about a month back or so, gave me some direction to The Briar Patch. Since, I’ve been perusing the site and really do like what I see and read here. I’m somewhat semi-retired here in Bend, but am looking around for some part-time work to keep me busy and active. The dogs usually keep me active with four walks on a daily basis, wherein we strike-up a good number of California quail and Mule deer (that’s usually in the early morning walk). I enjoy some trap shooting from time to time, and I do understand there are a couple of good trap ranges nearby that I need to check out. I could go on for some time, but will simply post a couple of pix of why we moved to Bend. I’ll see everyone in the various threads. Congratulations. My best friend just moved from Albuquerque to up the road from you to Redmond. He is trying to get up there. Looks really nice.

Congratulations. My best friend just moved from Albuquerque to up the road from you to Redmond. He is trying to get up there. Looks really nice. Hello Ron, Redmond's about 15 miles North of Bend. They have an airport where a number of direct flights come in from (Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Denver, Los Angeles, etc). The jets that land and take off are smaller jets (keeps things a bit more quiet), but are really cool to travel on. Redmond has its own police depart here in Deschutz County, and the Deschutz County Sheriffs Dept handles the rest of the territory. Many jobs to choose from in Redmond (check out jobs or employment in Redmond on Indeed.com). Beautiful countryside, rivers, and wildlife. A tad on the cool side at the moment  |

Welcome to TBF. I'm near Philly but was born in the City of Roses. Very few native Webfooters leave the state. I myself love flyfishing around the Bend area. In fact, I really ought to organize myself and make that happen next year.

I love the greenery in Oregon, but the last time I visited my brother when he lived in Gresham some years back for a couple weeks, it rained every day.

I believe the Ebay seller: Doug Valitchka is from Bend. If you win one of his auctions, you could drive across town and pick up your pipe. He does consignments as well, so that might be a convenient possibility.
