The Brentford was Falcons cheapest pipe and was made - you guessed it - in Brentford, UK. I have no idea why Falcon had to have a third line of pipes after the original Falcon and the Alco. This doesn´t seem very economically these days but maybe it was different back then. Or maybe it was because of the boat-load of undersized briar blocks Falcon had still in store and couldn´t use for their Falcon-models. However, the bowls were again different from Alco and Falcon so no swapping of bowls again. They had a flat "Brentford" stamped underside, not the domed variant like the Falcon and Alco bowls. The choice of bowls was limited too. In contrast to the Falcon-system you could remove the nylon bit, just like on Alcos. Length was 13cm or 5.12 inch. Due to the undersized briar blocks Falcon used for this pipe, the bowl was considerably smaller than a Falcon bowl. The Brentford was only produced between 1967 and 1979 and G.L. Hunt decided not to import it to the USA because it was he stated "cheap pipe - not profitable". These two came from England, were easy to clean up and yes - they were cheap as well! My stems have a "FD2" and a "FD5" stamp, so they could have been made by Fry´s Diecastings or Federal Diecastings, who knows....

Sounds like a use for left over materials. They are kind of cute though.

Yes, they had a lot of problems with undersized briar blocks and I assume that they all went into the small "Bantam"-bowls and into bowls for The Brentford and the smaller ALCO pipes.

Removable stem... that makes it more attractive.
I'm still tempted to try a Falcon out, but the fact that I can't put a longer stem on it makes it a deal breaker for me.

You have removable stems on ALCOs and The Brentford but they are nylon bits. I suppose an ebonite stem could be made to fit. Maybe the larger ALCO and an Falcon International stem would be a working combination but then again this will become much too pricey for just trying it.

Interesting, Frank! Thanks. Btw, at my local B&M, they have Falcon briar pipes as well.

Yes, Falcon seems to diversify their line of pipes now. IMHO they should stick to their system pipes as they are unique. Why should I want to buy a briar pipe from them? Every other brand has more expericence with that for sure.
