I just purchased, supposedly purchased, a Parker pipe from an antique store. This is my first foray into tobacco pipes. I spent about an hour on pipephil.eu and could not find the Pipe. The stamp is Parker Campaign with Made in London over England. It has a metal cap at the base of the stem but it is hard to tell what the letters/symbol is. Maybe SjI/ or /I(upside down j)S.
Appreciate the insight Jay Austin TX

Welcome to the patch. There are a few legendary pipesmen around the forum. Post some pics and there is a good chance someone can help you or at least point you in the right direction.

Welcome! I have 1 Parker, it is a Briarbark size 4 Prince shape 97. I won it at the silent auction at the Chicago Show last year. It smokes excellent and would not hesitate in getting another Parker in the future. Enjoy the pipe and look forward to your thoughts on it.

Looking at the stamping and the ferrule (Which I have seen on other pipes) IMHO I would say your pipe is post-1970.

It was barely smoked with raw Briar still visible in the top half of the bowl when I picked it up. One of my best smokers. The only thing suspect is either the logo on stem was buffed off or a replacement as the is no “P” inlay or stamp anywhere I can find. Makes no matter it still smokes great.

I am more interested in the logo on the pipe. I can't find that particular logo anywhere. I have a Hardcastles Hallmark that has the same logo as the Parker. Sort of looks like SJV, but what is it, and what does it stand for? A Parker is supposed to have a 'P' logo, and a Hardcastles should have an 'H'. Can anyone shed some light on this? An update since my initial post......apparently the stems are repairs/replacements. The "SJV" stands for San Jose Vein. It doesn't identify the maker, but rather the vein that the silver was mined from. The San Jose Vein produces silver of particularly high quality. There is a pipe similar to mine on SP. It too has the JLV logo. www.smokingpipes.com/pipes/estate/england/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=107458Now I'm thinking that maybe they're not replacements, but perhaps Dunhill used the silver bands on some of their better pipe models. Anyway, makes for interesting research!

I have a few other pipes with that logo on the band. I will be honest and say I am not going through 300 pipes to find them. In the 70s and 80s I will say both Parker and Hardcastle where a shell of whay they where.

I have had several Estates with that SJV banding, including no names. There is a story there, but I never found any conclusive information.

The band initials are a generic after market addition I believe. I have seen a pipe repair place that had dozens of them stocked for repairs. No idea where they bought them or why they are marked as such.

Doctor of Pipes Mike Reschke was a noted Parker collector and expert. So, it’s a big of a cachet for your Parker to be from his collection.

Out of the five one was also owned by Greg Pease. Greg verified his ownership at this years KC show. So then then other four I take the dealers word that Reshke owned them. For now David Jacobson owns them if that means anything. I have liked Parkers for years and jumped at the chance to purchase the five. BTW I gifted one, a 1932 Bruyere Lovat to a great friend!
