Ok, like I've said before I have just recently ventured into the world of the more premium tobacco's. The brands I have had so far are.. Dunhill Durbar. Dunhill Three Year Matured Virginia. Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky and Peterson Irish Flake. I can honestly say that I have enjoyed all four!! Very Good!!
My question is, why is it that I get the biggest initial big "kick" from the Dunhill Three Year Matured Virginia? Be it first thing in the morning, afternoon, driving to work or even the last bowl of the day it always gives me a BIG kick and makes my head spin to the point of almost having to pull over to the side of the road while driving. The others don't do that to me.
What I first thought would be the weakest of the four brands turns out to me to be the most potent. I figured the others with their higher strength rating would have been the ones to do that??

Not an answer, but I have never had a Dunhill that was not strong. Ye Olde Signe might be the weakest of them.

It is always a good thing to have food in the belly before smoking...as with alcohol, you need something to soak up the inhalants.

Agree with David - Dunhill are not known for light nic blends. Having said that, I would have thought that Irish Flake would be far stronger than any of the others. The Orlik is a bit misnamed - the "strong" is probably meant to refer to flavour rather than nicotine. But bottom line is, it seems people have varying reactions to different leaf and different blends. For example, I find FVF really strong, but Nightcap no big deal.

Never had an issue with it until one night...head was spinning and my belly was chucking....that is exactly what I was thinking on my earlier post...Nightcap is the only English blend that has done that.

I am partially nicotine intolerant and cheated myself a long time by assuming Orlik DSK and Heinrich's Dark would be too strong for me. As noted, sometimes taste and flavor don't necessarily equate to strength.

My ideal tobaccos are lots of flavour, little nicotine strength.

I'll be getting more of the Dunhill at any rate.

After reading different threads here for the past year. I recall seeing folks mention different tobaccos that treated them this way. Maybe it is just how each of us are. Someone says ABC gives me a kick, but not XYZ. Someone else will say, not me, I’m the other way around. For me,I’ve tried morning noon and night. Empty stomach and full, but Hauted Bookshop Can kick me hard!

If you like ketchup try some McC Top Hat. I opened up a previously opened can two hours ago. Closed it immediately and I am still looking around the room for the Route 66 Diner that sent the greasy hamburger over here.

Closed it immediately and I am still looking around the room for the Route 66 Diner that sent the greasy hamburger over here. Open and close it daily for a few weeks. The vinegar smell recedes some and the flavors improve vastly. I do this with all McClelland blends ... sometimes even over a few months.

Just to add food for thought ... the nicotine content of tobacco leaf varies by it's position on the stalk.
Nitrogen and Nicotine are higher in the Lamina than the Midribs and the concentrations increase from bottom to the top of the plant.
It COULD just possibly be that they source these upper leaves more commonly.
Also, any casings used that decrease the pH will make the Nicotine more readily available for absorption.
