Edit: I have been in the union 28 years, not 38..... Give it up Charlie. We all know how old you really are.

I'm not sure that using Orwell to make an anti-union point makes much sense. His politics were sometimes contradictory, but he was primarily a socialist. It's interesting, anyway, that his works resonate with both the right and left - presumably for entirely different reasons, or perhaps because they both see "the other side" in terms of totalitarianism and oppression. I know I do! I think that’s spot on. Orwell’s quotes can soothe and inspire whichever side is out of power.

Don't let a post count one one board fool you JP's well known and I'll bet you'll go home crying before he will. Yeah, we know. He’s not a moderator here though, just some forum noob with 21 comments. And since post count seems to be counted as something of value, here’s one more for my tally. I don’t see any value in them at all. I can “nice pipe!” and “+1” the hell out of this place ‘til the cows come home. Does that change anything?

And I think the Huntsville plant is a terrific thing. Let’s get 100 more like it. The union/open shop debate is a pendulum that is currently swinging towards open shop southern states. So be it. I don’t blame a company for choosing Alabama over New York. At this point, in my mind, any manufacturing coming back to the US is a good thing.

Japan is also the second largest holder of US debt behind China. Good for those people in Huntsville. Hope it works out for them.

Since then they have been to the brink of collapse and are slowly coming back. Every new manufacturing job in the states is a monumental plus. How many years have both foreign and domestically held concerns been fleeing for more friendly havens? We can all argue the semantics, but redeveloping our base is a huge (yuge?) thing.

I imagine a lot of the work goes to States that are Right to Work. No need to explain this as I will be jumped on with a ferocious tenacity!

I remember in the 80s when Japanese markets went into the deep freeze but never worried about them taking over New York City. False narrative that one. I hope socially responsible corporations like Toyota continue to expand here.

Unfortunately that's not the attitude among some prominent but childish forum members over at your regular home, and was partly the idiotic instigating cause of the exodus/ban orgy a few months back. Allegedly.

Of course it is. But Japanese real estate purchases were a concern, regardless of your worries. It was in the news, you can look it up.

I didn’t spring from that nest. I was in 6 or 7 forums that either closed or I was booted from. There have been more new members in the last 30 days than what were lost in the purge. You needn’t worry about the success of that place, maybe you should focus on adding quality to this place. Are you bitter about getting shitcanned?

Which makes members childishly competitive, and coddled for it? Not at all. Taking away the cut and paste aspect made many who are no longer there act quite childishly, and many others tagged along.

You've done a fine job of depopulating the nest you sprang from. There have been more new members in the last 30 days than what were lost in the purge. Are you bitter about getting shitcanned? So the new members make "the purge" all okay, then? To hell with the active members who were there for years, but unwittingly got caught up in some bullshit teenage soap opera? And yes, though you didn't ask me - I am bitter about getting shitcanned for a vague, minor issue that was never even explained to me, with no warning, no communication at all, no opportunity to explain, no replies when I tried, and no access to my 2 or 3 years of PMs which had a lot of information and contacts I wanted to keep. I contributed quite a bit of original content, without regard to f-ing post count, but was unceremoniously banned nevertheless. I don't think there's much disputing that it is just a shitty, low-arse way to run a forum. Every pipe forum on the web has PSF ban stories by bewildered, disgruntled former members to attest to that fact, and it's the only one with that reputation.

I remember getting pretty worked up when the Japanese were buying everything up. They bought up pretty much all the golfing properties of Pebble Beach... Spyglass, Spanish Bay, pebble beach, etc...and they paid enormous amounts of money. A wise old fart told me that it wasn’t to be concerned about. When their financial bubble burst, Clint Eastwood and some other investors bought the places up at by comparison, fire sale prices. That happened pretty much across the board, the Japanese lost their butts on that one, and I don’t think they ever reallly recovered.
