Hello all! My name is Trevor Race (yes, it's my real name) and I am almost 37 years old. I dabbled in pipe smoking about a decade ago for a year or two. While I enjoyed it, I never really took the time to learn about the nuances of pipe smoking. I recently returned to the pipe. A few months ago I picked up an estate piece at an antique store which turned out to have a cracked shank. Something about this situation set me into motion. I now have a handful of estate pipes that all need work, one that I use a few times a week for aromatics, and one cheaper pipe for English blends. This is a temporary situation, as I'd like to start refurbishing estate pipes and carving/building my own as well. I love all the little nuances and stories I have read on a different forum. Coincidentally, the other forum I had just registered for seems to be down, and that's how I found this one. I hope to learn a lot from everyone here and hopefully take part in some good conversation.

Glad to have you here, Trevor. Which blends are you currently smoking? I have a few vanilla blends from the bulk menu over at P&C that I'm enjoying. But I've also tried their Sutliff Strawberry Delight and their Cinnamon Roll blend. I found both to be surprisingly fun and enjoyable smokes. I'm actually on a lifetime search for a specific aromatic that I will only be able to recognize by smell while being smoked. I've been looking for it for years now. When I was young there was a local mechanic in his late 80s/early 90s(this is in early 1980s, when I was very young)who only smoked one blend and it was the most wonderful room note I've ever experienced in my life. I can still close my eyes and smell it right now. One day I will find it. And if not, at least I can still remember the smell.

Hope you are successful in your Knights Quest. Welcome!!

Welcome aboard! I used to drive up 99 every week onat the end of my 3 to 4 day run to southern California...long gone now, but Klein's Truck stop had the best food around....the load of meat I hauled stopped there weekly. Sad to see it is gone.

Sad to see it is gone. Yes, this is very sad. I have been going to Klein's for 30 years. They made some great biscuits and gravy. Well, it wasn't the best, but it was better than average, and the portions were always massive. I didn't even know they closed until the weekend before Thanksgiving. I guess I'm too broke to pay attention. Hahaha

I have not been out there since 2005, but the beauty of driving north from the Grapevine, along side dusty mountains and winding up on 80 in snowy mountains all in one day was just beautiful. Well, I almost landed in jail, but I digress. If your looking for "that blend" it's most likely an OTC or Codger. One thing I found out from my older brother is he smoked a ton of Lane 1Q, and that it is one of the most popular. I didn't know he smoked that. Before he moved away we were on Amphora, Sail, Dutchman, etc. I discovered Captain Black after running out of Tinderbox Captain Spice. Maybe the more you can figure out what it smelled like and what it didn't, others might be able to guide you to the truth. Again, most likely Codger or OTC
