Maybe its because of the components of it, or that its similar to a favorite or you just have it laying around, but do you have a blend you keep trying WANTING to like it but falling short ?
With me it is Escudo, I first read about it who knows how many years ago. Every time I went to order something I would check and see but it was usually out of stock. I finally did get a tin and was very anxious to try what I had built up in my head to be a blend to match no other.
I still have the remainder of that tin , jarred it up. The date on the lid is 10-2013. About once a year or so I will go to the dusty end of the cellar to see if anything catches my eye . Without fail I pick up the Esucdo and think THIS time it will be different. Load up various pipes and same thing. Hate the taste. Not dislike , Hate. Like this tobacco has personally insulted me by existing. I usually finish the bowl, or at least get past the half way point then put the jar back. Clean the pipe and move on.
Even as I put it back I chuckle that in another year I will do this little dance all over again, with no reason to expect different results.
Do you have a blend you apparently WANT to like , but never do?

C&D Bob Bushman. Descriptions and reviews noted its coconut component (which I like), but it totally escaped my tastebuds.

Yo Derv
I don't like 'scudo, neither. I don't dislike it, either. Yet I love Dunhill Deluxe Navy Rolls, which is made in the same factory and maybe from the same ingredients. Some feel these two are identical, but not me. I've puffed Escudo from several vintages, including Cope's and from when production changed to A&C Petersen. The old ones had their charms, but they are not something I would chase. Curiously, I feel the same way about another Holy Grail, Three Nuns. Yet I do love quite a few blends in the same genre. Quite a few are stocked up in my Top300 Cellar.

I have yet to try it, but Firedance Flake is frequently mentioned in posts like this.

I wanted to like Mixture 79 just to be contrary, but I couldn't. Who knows, though, I might like it now that I've developed a Lakeland appreciation.
Otherwise, the whole VaPer genre pretty much. I really tried with Davidoff Flake Medallions, Dunhill DNR, the Stokkebye flakes.... All of them just seem harsh to me. I do appreciate some straight VAs, though (especially Gawiths) so I suspect Perique just does not agree with me.

I have one. I really wanted to like Half&Half. Since I was a kid, I remember that classic logo on everything from barns to my grandpa's workshop wall. I wanted so badly to have that gorgeous old can on my shelf. The casing killed me though. I tried two different times and couldn't make it past the first quarter of the bowl. Smell and taste were fine, but the casing made my mouth and throat sore. It just had a burning plastic note to it.

I've been trying a lot of different mixtures in order to figure out what I like. Subsequently have accumulated some mixtures that I wish I could at least use up if only to never have to think about them again. I'm particularly thinking of very gloopy Kentucky Club and the mood killer that is Russ' Yule Log.

Captain Earle's Ten Russians. I want to like it, but it just overwhelms me. I feel like I am smoking a campfire 🔥.

C&D Captain Bob's Blend. The grape flavor & bag scent is overpowering. It will ghost your pipe terribly. However, it is really not a "bad" blend. It just needs a dedicated pipe and must be segregated from your other tobacco or it will make everything smell like grape soda or Koolade. Although I love most all C&D blends, I just end up not smoking Capt Bob's and move on to the next one.

Please send all of your unopened 2013 or older Escudo to me here in Louisville for proper disposal. I am licensed and can handle the mission.

I used to bust a gut over at PM, captain Bob himself found a way to make a Segway about.... “ Hey, let me tell you about Captain Bob’s blend!” Whenever the subject of tobacco came up.... I started doing the same thing in a soft pedaled way to have fun with it.

In short ... no. At this point, one or two bowls will predict the fate of that blend.

I had to give up on Sugar Barrel as out of nowhere, it suddenly became bitey, despite having smoked it on a regular basis prior.

I'll second Half & Half. My Uncle smoked it for years. The room note is phenomenal, and it's a classic American brand. Just can't get past the flavor. No bueno.
