Have to confess my ignorance/confusion on this one. For years I have just called them a bent Poker, but the official designation is: Cherrywood. Learned this at pipedia.org while looking at their excellent pipe shape charts. It is projected that it came about from original French Cherry Wood pipes in this configuration.

Thanks for the correction. The shape charts are indeed useful.

One of the first pipes I bought(back when I could work all day and chase girls at night) was a Cherrywood It was a Knute. I really liked it. Sadly though it suffered a burn out. It's still one of my favorite shapes.

From what I know, the difference between a poker and a cherrywood is not related to the shank, stem or bend. The bottom of a cherrywood is canted, where the bottom of poker bowl is parallel to the top of the bowl. So a designation of bent poker is valid and different from a cherrywood.

Thanks for the insight. I have examples of all 3 and now I know what to properly call them. Knowledge is a good thing.
