I haven't owned a Charatan for a long time. I can never find a shape I like at a price I can afford. Well lo and behold, I came across this nice little apple shaped Tinder Box Unique. For some time these have admittedly been made by Charatan for Tinder Box. It didn't look to be in great shape, but for $8 I figured I had little to lose. The stem needed the most work as there were lots of tooth dents in it, but otherwise it just needed a good cleaning and polishing. Just stamped The Tinder Box, Unique, Made in England. I think I read that these were mostly made in the 1970s, but I have no way of knowing for sure. Anyway, it's a nice pipe with no fills or problems save for some rim darkening and a few little dings, and has a rather thick shank for an apple shape. Smoked some Fusilier's Ration in it, and it was great, never got hot. Anyone else have one of these?

There are some very desirable pipes floating under that T-Box house stamp (someone should do a thread identifying them) and you found one. Congrats & Enjoy.

Good for you, man. Looks like a winner. Tinderbox pipes were almost always good smokers. I have four, none of which were made by Charatan.

Tinder Box pipes are among my favorite brand of pipes. A lot of their pipes were made by some of the better companies in the business at the time.

Nice looking pipe! I got interested in The Tinder Box Uniques back in the 70's when a friend gave me one that I believe is called the Huntsman by Charatan. That pipe has been lost to the years, probably sold or misplaced. But I always wanted to get another like it. I found some on Ebay a couple of years ago:

Ooo John, I do like the shape of those pipes! Reminds me of a Yachtsman shape more than anything. Like maybe a Savinelli 904. Might have to look out for one of those!
