It looks like Cigars international, of which P&C is part of had a big management shake up from the computer debacle that took place delaying orders. I never knew that Scandinavian Tobacco group owned them. halfwheel.com/2017-awards-company-year/218192I am guessing that this means P&C will be relocating also? Pennsylvania hasn’t been exactly friendly to the tobacco industry in the last few years, maybe they are doing what many firearms manufacturers have chose to do and move to friendlier states?

Yo trai
Nice find! Thank you for that. It will be interesting to see what transpires. But one million isn't much of a spend if their intent is to replace the large warehouse in the Lehigh Valley.

That 1 million was to spend in 2017. Big moves often take more than one year and don't happen overnight.

The debacle occurred last year, 2017, the management changes occurred in 2015/16 according to the article.

That first million may have been just to get the planning off the ground or to finding the location in Texas to move to.

I think CI was part of General and got bought up by Swedish Match/STG years ago. The CI head was on (#267) KMA Talk Radio (formerly Kiss My Ash Radio) last fall and discussed the computer issues and the expansion. I don't think he's a tobacco lifer but a bidnessman who run a cigar company. Speaking of non tobacco lifers running a tobacco interest I think I heard there was another shakeup at IPCPR. They've been floundering for years. Off topic but If you didn't already know JR's are owned by Imperial. If you ever want some good listening JR's Founder Lew Rothman has been on KMA Talk Radio a few times. I really enjoyed #116. itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/kma-talk-radio/id450588252?mt=2

Just what the expansion entails isn't stated in the article.Could simply be a regional distribution warehouse, like the Amazon hubs.

I read a while back it was going to have two B&M's in Texas. I am pretty sure it was discussed here, but I just woke up, so like The Good Lord, take me as I am

That would be nice that if that is the case, CI would have the ability to fulfill tobacco orders. It currently takes 4 to 5 days from Bethlehem Pa. to Mesquite Texas on its way to AZ. Via UPS donkey non-express riders. Meeting customers expectations in the age of Amazon with fast free shipping certainly ups the logistical challenges for a company, and a hub makes sense. If it is strictly a distribution hub, it needn’t take much, a simple warehouse with internet. Most all operations could still be managed from Bethlehem. I wish Russ O posted here, he has been pretty good at being forthcoming about issues and changes on other sites.

A lot of northern and over seas companies are expanding to the south and south west USA.There are several reasons why. It's creating a rapidly growing economy in this area.Just last night an article on the news said that Charlotte is having to rapidly increase construction of commercial space to keep up with the increasing demand.

When I moved to Arizona in 2005, commercial real estate in the way of huge retail centers exploded. With online sales exploding, there is a huge shift away from brick and mortars, I hope that the buildings can be repurposed for the changes coming.

I think it has a lot to do with population growth concentrating in the South and Southwest states over the last 25 years. The expansion of the electrical grid, highway network, air travel, cheap fuel, and better A/C technology really has allowed these states to take advantage of traditionally underdeveloped resources.

That does clear it up quite a bit.And since I'm only 4 hours north of Dallas, makes for a fun day-trip.
