So a few days ago I purchased a Dr Grabow rusticated Omega. I removed the shellac as I do with all my ♠DG pipes. The stain was still in place so I waxed it and then turned my attention to the stem. After sawing off the false P lip I filed what was left into a button. Then I smoked this wonderful pipe. Wow! My tobacco tastes better out of this pipe than any other at any age! The pipe smokes right down to white ash delicious all the way.Right out of the blister pack this is a instant winner for me. I did make some modifications, but it's nothing I haven't done to my other DG's.
Have you guys ever had a pipe that just stands out ahead of the class right off the bat?

All of my Ron Powell, RDPipes, were fantastic right from the first smoke. Glad you had a great smoke!  |

I can't say I've had such a happy coincidence. I have had the opposite experience where a pipe upon first smoking proves it's not going to be a keeper; this happened to me with a Big Ben and twice with a The Pipe pipes. I've never tried modifying a pipe though.

My Don Warren pipe was a real sleeper to me...when I won it at the WCPS, I thought that it would be ok....every bowl since then has been excellent.
My Brakner's and my GBD's all really are wonderful smokers.
My W O Larsen rusticated brand really rocks with English blends.
I cannot say any one pipe is best, I am fortunate to have so many great smokers.

I get what you mean on a solid first showing. My Genod XL bent Billiard, smoked its first bowl of Carter Hall like lost and reunited siblings. It might of well talked and said,I'm here. Let's get with it and merci for giving me a home. |
