I just finished my first few ounces of Lane 1-Q and it just seems to sweet for my taste. I'm hoping to get some suggestions and recommendations from other members here on what the consider a first rate everyday bulk pipe tobacco and learn what their favorites are so I can try some others and try and find a favorite. I know all tastes are subjective but I gotta start somewhere. Thanks for your input.

I don't think I'll be buying that just yet for a everyday, multiple times a day smoke. Nope, nope, nope...

I can highly recommend going to Just For Him online and trying Whiskey Biscuit Gravy. One of the best blends I've ever smoked in bulk form. Also you might try their Shortcut to Mushrooms, which is very nice too, and no it doesn't have any mushrooms in it. (at least that I know of) Neither of these are really sweet, but are a mild aros with an interesting flavor that is hard to describe, other than like a smokey vanilla.

The two I stuff and puff the most often are PS Bullseye Flake and Newminster Superior Navy Flake. Just about out of both and have ordered something different: PS English Luxury, PS Navy Flake and PS Highland Whisky since they were on sale at Smokingpipes.com

At the present time, I would have to say Peretti No 8 Slices and Hearth and Home Louisiana Red. Note: I've started to explore the D&R Virginia blends, so this may change.

Cheating, as I am known to do, I would say Admiral's Choice Black and Gold. 8 oz bags are not bulk, per se, but the price is cheaper than bulk, so having 3 pounds of it... I claim bulk
My other one, which would top about any list is Scotty's Butternut Burley. That is in bulk, but the sin that is greater than Admiral's Choice is that it cost 3x as much with no break for increased amount

...Lane Burley, Lane Dark Red, PS Amsterdam Shag, Sutliff RR, to name a few...

Edgeworth Ready Rubbed Match is number one. Even though the D&R are not technically bulk, many are sold in one pound bags at a very reasonable price, so I'll count them in: Windsail Platinum, Vengeur Platinum, A.P. Rimboche, A.B. Rimbouche, and Three Sails. Same goes from Smoker's Pride Rum and Angler's Dream. Stokkebye Black Coffee, Briggs Match, Dunhill Elizabethan Match, P&W #515, Uhle's Perfection Plug Burley, Uhle's Blend 00, Watch City Deluxe Crumb Cut, and a few not coming to mind at the moment.

Jim, one might be Sutliff J4 Burley that you turned me onto. It would be at the top, but the Butternut seems a tad more to my liking, though I have a few pounds of each

How do you define "everyday bulk pipe tobacco"? Are you looking to not break the bank, to not fatigue your palette over the course of the day, or to strike a balance between those two?

Star of the East, or Butternut burley.
I have had a few of the Just for Him blends. Including the Whiskey biscuit gravy and shortcut to mushrooms. Both good stuff

G&H Brown Bogie.
Since I smoke 2-3 bowls per day, that fits the bill of an all day smoke for me.
If I smoked double that amount, I would say the Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake, Luxury Twist, Bullseye flake, would work. MacBaren Golden Extra, Scottish Flake.

I forgot to mention C&D Pegasus. I've only been smoking it for about three + weeks, but it's become one of my daily smokes.

I guess my definition would be something not to fatigue my palette. Something along the lines of Lane 1-Q ( which is basically all I have to go off of.) but not so darn sweet. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'm looking into them and going to be trying some of them soon.

It sounds like Whitehall Black Tie might be the perfect bulk for you. It's mild, has a chocolate/vanilla essence. Sweet. Can be smoked all doggone day long a la Captian Black, but is more flavorful. Room Note is really good

Not trying to be smart, but many of the people who wrote those are either dyed in the wool English-Fan Aro-Haters or they want some exotic flavor they will never find. I am a black cav fan and I keep three pounds of this in supply. If you notice the polarity of the reviews you can discount those, look at JimInks review and he gives it a fair average. I give it better because it's what I am looking for

You might try Sutliff: 507-C Virginia Slices for a new frame of reference. A mellow, medium bodied smoke with a shadow of sweetness to it and it is an affordable bulk. Also, Macbaren: Golden Extra and Symphony, might appeal to you, if your moving away from pronounced sweetness, but like a reminder.

Kramers Father Dempsey is my go to right now. Maybe not every day, but 4 or 5 times a week. No wait.. Peterson Old Dublin. Oh heck, depends on the day. I just know they both are showing up often right now

I would like to see @truculentfrogs the Ribbiter in a way so Truculent try this. He likes some of the value brands similarly to me. Much of the "dainty" tastes in other BC's seem to hit fine one day, but maybe not the next. Smoker's Pride BC and Whitehall Black Tie are very consistent from smoke to smoke. Like the Burleys 5Bros, Butternut Burley, and J4 Burley, they are as consistent. For those unaware, Trucky has reviews on Smoking Pipes. peterd-Buffalo Spirit has some on Tobacco Reviews. I mention Peter, because he has been on the Codger Road with many of us. Paving the way, really

I actually was going to mention OJK, but figured I would lose my street cred on the matter at hand, by doing so. Thinking about it though... mentioning Brown Bogie did that.😉
