I prefer outside. Luckily I live in a warm climate. If it’s too hot - I have an exhaust fn and an air purifier in my home office - but then i am working. We still have lots of bars in Vegas we can still smoke in.

Wolfman you could always try wrapping the bowl within a large plastic bag that could catch most of the smoke and then just letting it out a window.

The other advantage of smoking indoors is the pure joy of smoking a churchwarden. I haven't the brass to smoke one in public. Oh, but it has nothing to do with brass, I'd think. A Churchwarden is an armchair-and-book pipe and far too unwieldy to flash outside. Unless you're sitting on a bench in a nice garden or park, of course.

They even turned it into a great movie starring Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins. Thanks, I will look into that book. Might even see if I can find the movie. Anne Bancroft is of the era of the last actors/actresses I thought worth a Damn. Unlike today's suprcilious dipsticks who can't keep their politics to themselves. You're most welcome. I liked her husband as well. Many years ago he was the main guest on some Saturday evening entertainment on Danish TV; unfortunately I only saw half of it, the rest of the time I was in stitches on the floor. We have the same phenomenon here in Denmark. Just as soon as some actor/actress becomes a fairly known face, they have to unleash their political opinions on an unsuspecting public. Some even go into politics.

If I move to a bigger house, I'd like to have a smoking room / library and then those reasons will come to the fore for me...except that I be inhaling the smoke, so I'll need a window to hang my head out. But then again, you don't really need a smoking room/library if you feel the need to hang your head out a window every time you want a smoke. Any window will do then.

The other advantage of smoking indoors is the pure joy of smoking a churchwarden. I haven't the brass to smoke one in public. There’s a steakhouse in NYC called ‘Keens’. It’s been around since 1885. From their website: Keens Steakhouse Logo 72 WEST 36TH ST NEW YORK NY 10018 In 1885 Keens Chophouse opened independently under the ownership of Albert Keen, by then a noted figure in the Herald Square Theatre District. Keens soon became the lively and accepted rendezvous of the famous. Actors in full stage make-up hurried through the rear door to "fortify" themselves between acts at the neighboring Garrick Theatre. By the time Keens celebrated its 20th anniversary, you could glance into the Pipe Room and see the jovial congregations of producers, playwrights, publishers and newspaper men who frequented Keens Men (Women weren’t allowed until the early 1900s.) would check their pipes in when they left. Today, there are hundreds of old churchwardens that members left over the years. One of Babe Ruth’s pipes is there. They make a great steak. It’s not cheap, but one of my favorite steakhouses. Dramatwist have you been there?

It’s very rare when I have the opportunity to smoke indoors. I live in a apartment building and my neighbors are ‘sensitive’ to smoke ( translation : They’re a&@holes). On the rare occasion, I’ve put towels under the door and cracked the window. One day I’ll buy a house and all will be well. Some time back, before I was booted off Pipesmagazine forums, I remember (spelling will be wrong) Rakesvf? Had long lived in the same apartment and predated his neighbors by years, however they moved in and started harassing him about smelling his smoke. He had quite a Dunhill collection. Mike Bloomberg is quite the arse with his war on tobacco, sodas, sugar, etc.... he is a hypocritical prick,

Yes there are factors that make the decision for you. If you own or rent, if the weather is generally good or not, local laws.
I am considering a move in the future, which will require returning to an apartment after many years of owning my own home. I hadn't thought about all the changes that could bring.
I was thinking that for the first six months I wold not light up anywhere near the new apartment, but get all the pipe smoking mail and walk around the halls with an unlit pipe, and see who claims to be able to smell it.
