I have a handful of project pipes, strictly for learning, with the full expectation of trashing them. One of these pipes has a crack in the top of bowl. Is there a way to repair a crack like that, or does a crack in the bowl mean there's no coming back? Or does one simply need to be a master woodworker to handle such an issue?

About the only way is to first find the end of the crack, then drill all the way thru the bowl with about a 1/16 drill bit at the end, then force a little thin epoxy into the hole and crack part way. Then fill the inside of the crack and hole with pipe mud. It sometimes works. You'll need high temp epoxy.

Right on! Thank you for that info. This crack is far too big for repair, the more I look at it, but I think I may just use this pipe for an art piece.
