If, like myself, you abide with a significant other, does yours encourage, support or simply tolerate your pipe smoking? If encouraging and/or supportive, does this significant other have a preference for a particular tobacco's scent?
Mine is encouraging and supportive, but prefers the scent of "Captain Black Original", which is the only aromatic I smoke regularly. I'm guessing this is typical.
Thoughts? Comments? Curses (under your breath, please)?

Toleration with occasional moments of support alongside an undercurrent of displeasure.

...after 38 years, she rarely comments,,, I would say that her least favorite tobacco would be black/brown ropes and strong Latakia smokes...

Swmbo prefers dark fired, and doesnt care for latakia. She's coming around to the latakia a little at a time but I still get the nose wrinkle when I mention it.

Mine tolerates it. But would not like it in the main living areas of the house. Not sure I would either. I keep it outside or in my smoking room.

Mine's along the lines of most mentioned. All smoking done in what's basically a storage room behind kitchen. Big glass top desk, a few plants here/there. As many wives etc...aversion to anything latakia. However, over the past year with her mixture of meds...has lost 90% of her sense of smell so pretty much a moot point. She stays outa there much as possible!
So, no problem with me smoking indoors long as not all over the house.

My wife of 40 years has been very tolerant. I smoke mostly in my recliner right next to hers. She only complains when the smoke bothers her, which are mostly from aros. I don't think she's ever commented on Latakia blends. I only picked it up again 4 years ago.

I guess I'm lucky as my wife has been smoking a pipe right along with me for over 35 years.

Whitehall Black Tie - The Lady Killer (in a good way). It does have a nice room note and if SO is okay with CB, this may be more loved.
I have so many health issues my MD told me something else will kill me before my pipe will. I waited until I was sixty, last year, to pick up the habit again. I smoke in the bedroom, which is where I am all day, and occasionally the living room. Wife is always in the kitchen in between.
She complained for quite a while, but mostly for my health. Since I don't inhale it does not effect breathing issues.
Every once in awhile she will complain of a blend, G&H Bob's Chocolate Vietnamese Pig Tailed Macaque Poo comes to mind. I agreed. Last night she came into the room while I was having a bowl of something in the Lady Margaret Cob and started talking as if the pipe were not even there. Life does not get a lot better.
Good question, btw

Toleration with occasional moments of support alongside an undercurrent of displeasure. Ha, ha - well put. I would only add intense avoidance and occasional amusement and that would be my wife. Money-wise she's great, probably because her spending on crochet yarn, clothes, and other junk far outpaces my pipe smoking spending.

i'm not quite sure what category to put hubby in. he doesn't encourage it, but doesn't discourage it. he tried smoking a few times but it just didn't grab him. he goes with me to pipe meetings and always manages to find someone to talk to, usually about non-pipe related things, lol (last month he spent an hour talking to a new guy about butchering) he does want to try his hand at pipe making (he is a woodworker) but hasn't had time yet. At home I do have to smoke outside.

Les considers him a saint, lol. hubby and i went to MD for a Christmas event the first weekend in Dec. Les was hosting a meetup at Boswell's in Chambersburg PA which wasn't far from where we were going to be. So, we drove in and joined them for a couple hours or so. Les couldn't get over that hubby sat there and never complained. He did find someone to talk to there, they had similar interests, lol.

Threads like this always remind me of how lucky I am. My father in law chain smoked a pipe. As a result, she’s supportive and pipes are fine in the house even full English blends.

I did that for a family meat business, buying, butchering, driving, etc. Wife asked me how I could tell from the grain whether the ham was boneless or bone in. We bought one of each. She asked. Two days later when I finished telling her I looked over and her chair was empty

Ambivalence that would change if tried to bring it inside (which I dont care to anyhoot.) Sometimes I put some paperwork or something I'm tinkering with in front of me to give off the impression I'm vigorously being productive.

Mild support - gets tired of me trying to have her smell a new blend. I could smoke inside but I rarely do. Usually a quick walk in and out to grab something. The garage is attached and she comes out once or twice a month to chat while I smoke. She prefers aros for the smell. In the warmer months she will sit alongside me on the deck every time.

my wife is very tolerant of it and supportive. she didn't like me freezing outside in the winter, so she suggested that I put an exhaust fan in one of the basement windows and turn it into a smoking/beer lounge area. when I'm eyeballing a new pipe she always says something like, "If you want it, you should get it. You deserve it." but I always have to remind her how expensive pipes can be. sometimes when I order tobacco though, I can feel her rolling her eyes. hahahaha!!

Being a nurse, my wife has issues from a health stance, which I can understand. However, we have come to the agreement that there is a risk in eating red meat, drinking diet coke, etc. etc. and so if my pipe smoking is in moderation then she's come round to the idea. She wouldn't support it, but she's not told me to stop.
She just says, "I'm not nursing you through cancer." she's nice that way.

In my case.my pipe smoking is her fault. In truth I think she was a bit tired of me smoking cigars.I've had pipes since 1983,but, didn't regularly smoke them until about 3 years ago. Most blends she approves of.And many of my pipes we have picked out together.

My wife contracted valley fever a few years after moving to the southwest, so her respiratory system has been compromised therefore I don’t smoke inside. Probably not a bad thing since I will probably be selling our home in a few years and downsizing.
I am free to smoke to my hearts content though, at work, in my pickup, outside year round here, and great cigar/ tobacconist/ Pipe shops around here.

Thanks, I have taken a liking to it! There is a New Mexican restaurant within walking distance from my house. They have outdoor patio seating and although all establishments like that are smoke free, the workers let me smoke out there as long as I ask others around me....I have never had anyone tell me no....but if I were a cigarette or cigar smoker, I am pretty sure that their reaction wouldn't be the same....can't say as I blame them, while eating I wouldn't like to smell cigarettes or cigars, pipes are a whole 'nuther thang!
