The lunatics have been running the asylum for a while now. We are at the mercy of idiots who decide what is right for all.

It burns me up reading an article such as this one. I'm sure this law is a fee-raising scheme to pad the city coffers. I also wonder what sort of notice for public debate was given for citizens to voice their opinions. In addition, were public/commercial radio, newspaper, internet, and television involved in coverage and/or debate on this issue? Shame on them if they were not. Just one more thing for citizens to worry about in this life. Geeez!

As if the last 8 years of being Forced to buy a product/service wasn't enough, now we've got elected and appointed civil servants (our employees) telling us what we can't own and what we can't have on our own property!

So family hubby and wife three kiddos have 2 cars. Both parents work after all. Decides to buy 2 better gas mileage cars. Sells 1 of the origional cars , but keeps the big mini van for family trips and such. So trying to be environment conscious in their opinion now have 3 cars. Nice try family. Ticket time!

I think the key to understanding the ordinance is, "For the purposes of this section, accessory dwelling units shall not be considered a dwelling." Considering state law doesn't allow the city to tow directly from your property, that at home car repairs like an oil change are already illegal on environmental grounds, that you get two warnings prior to a ticket, and that you can still fit as many cars as you can into a garage besides the two on the drive way it seems that the ordinance is not meant to diminish car ownership, prevent parties, or raise funds for the city. The ordinance is meant to hamper homes that have been subdivided into multiple dwelling units or turned into rented rooms. It stands to reason that a subdivided home will end up with more cars than can fit in to the designated car garage (or that the garage might have been turned into a dwelling unit itself). By limiting drive ways to two cars the city is trying to limit such units in a round-about way and will probably focus enforcement of this ordinance in select neighborhoods (hard to imagine cops driving around counting cars on driveways throughout the city). They might also use it to gain cause to enter a house holding a party but that's just taking things to the extreme on my part.

If you think about it, no one is required to do anything... of course, one must accept the consequences.
