On the 17th of August 2017 my dear Gertie died, she had many seizures and she also was losing use of her legs and eventually became paralyzed before she died. Now her sister and littermate seems be showing the same symptoms Gert had when she started to decline such as her back legs crossing when she walks and incontinence at times. I have to take her to vet tomorrow and I am dreading this.

Sorry to hear of this Mike. It is easier when it is obvious, but as a pet parent the obvious may be hard to spot. Keep your loved ones in your heart. I know when my time comes what is in my heart goes with me.

Sorry Mike. My cattle dog is 15 years old. Still plenty spunky and I let him sniff a lot more on our walks these days. When I was working his smiling little face when I got home was the only thing which kept me from hanging myself in the backyard a couple times.
Best of luck to y’all.

Yeah, my best dog ever went into convulsions one night and her eyes were wild with terror, later diagnosed as a brain tumor.
It broke our heart when it was time to say goodbye.😪

Those are incredibly hard times and I wish you all the best. My wife had to go with her siblings to put their mom in hospice this weekend so it's been an emotional time here as well. Take care of yourself and remember that you provided the best life possible for your companion.

Sorry to hear about this. Hang tough, buddy, we've all been there. If this helps, we kept our 19 year old Yorkie who was deaf, blind and crippled for a year after we should have let him go. Feel selfish about it now. He was miserable for that last year.

I have empathy for you, crapgame . I've had to put down 3 pets in 10 years and it is always heart-rending.

We had one dog that was a Pomeranian half breed, turned really nasty. She thought that the kids toys were her babies and would hide them under the bed and snarl at us. Her tail lost all it’s hair, looked like a possum tail, was mangy, and had fleas within a day of killing off the old ones.
I finallly took the dog to the vet, had her put down, and all my kids were pretty happy about that, they all cheered and we went for pizza. No Old Yeller story on that one, or My Dog Skip.

Yeah, the old Yorkie tried to bite me every night when I tried to get into the bed for years. Sorry to say that in the early years he got knocked about 7 feet up the wall when he surprised me and snapped my crotch. Didn't faze him in the least. The last couple of years he couldn't see or hear me coming. So, peace at last. We got him from the pound and he always acted like an ex-con. We joked that if we shaved him we would find tattoos. I had to admire his grit. As much as I was glad to see him go, I still shed a couple of tears. All of our other dogs have died at home. You wake up in the morning and have to search the house for them usually. Our first Yorkie died in my arms. I cried like a baby. Now THAT was a dog. We had named him Samwise Gamgee of something or another kennals. And he lived up to his name. Couldn't have asked for a better, more faithful friend.

Well Sadie has the same genetic condition her sister/litter mate/ lifelong partner in crime Gertie had.The vet compared X-rays of both dogs and the spinal condition of both dogs is so similar that the vet said if didn't know the X-rays were of two dogs, he would have thought it was the same dog in both sets of pics..
He is handling this very aggressively because she has not lost any use of the legs yet like her sister did and she still has feeling in all legs and feet. He hopes aggressive treatment will allow the inflammation to get under control and remove most of the pain allowing her to build up some of her lost muscle, mass making her more stable when she walks.

I misread your first post (happens a lot lately). I thought it seemed hopeless, so I am thrilled there is some hope and your vet is attacking this aggressively. Blessings to you and the little one. We had a mom and son min-pin. They become an extension of your arm. I didn't know what to do with my arm for two years after Bobo was gone. Woof Woof
