Hi I got a new meerchaum pipe. but have questions about care. I got pipe cleaners, and a cleaning tool. The stem is acrylic while the bowl is made of a mineral stone I believe. (not sure if it is a meerschaum pipe). how do i clean the pipe?
how do i care for the pipe?
also should i use a microfiber cloth for polishing it?
how do I clean a microfiber cloth for tobacco use? (it was used with eyeglass fluid previously)

There is a lot of info out there. Just google meerschaum care. I have two and I just run a pipe cleaner around the inner bowl after each smoke. I use a bristle pipe cleaner about every 10th smoke. Both of mine are push style tenons so I also put a fuzzy pipe cleaner thru the stem and down to the bowl after each smoke. Just last summer I applied beeswax to my oldest Meer. I used a heat gun and it was a piece of cake. It really brought out some colors that were lurking in the background. I only smoke them with clean hands and have never worried about touching the bowl. ymmv

If it is of recent manufacture, it is probably Meerschaum, back when.. there were fake Meerschaum’s that even fooled some discriminating buyers.
A microfiber cloth is fine, you can clean the cloth by using mild laundry detergent in a bowl and agitating it, rinse well and lay out to dry. It is said that you aren’t suppose to use everclear on Meerschaum, and you certainly want to avoid getting it on the exterior, but I have no problem dipping a cleaner in Everclear, squeezing the loose fluids and do an airway stem cleaning followed by a dry pipe cleaner.
You can purchase beeswax and occasionally warm it to melt, brush on the pipe, and I have a heat gun to work it a bit more, and wipe excess off with a clean rag to polish.

No need for micro fiber, it wont help clean anything. The oils and wax in meerschaum will work themselves out eventually and microfiber doesn't polish on its own.

You want to keep the inside of the bowl from building up a carbon cake. Wipe it out after every smoke with a paper towel.

I actually have a carbon cake on one of mine and I love it. Oh, and the carbon has been there for at least twenty years
About a year ago I had a meer that had a burnt rubber smell to it. I looked it up and was told it happens. It didn't seem to be something I could smoke my way out of, but meer, being an absorbent beast, just might take on something around it. First, I took it away from the case. I put it in a clean box and stuffed it and covered it with cavendish and burley. Week later the burnt rubber smell is gone. The smell had been there since my last life of pipe smoking some years ago, so this was a pretty stark difference.

always meant to try a meer, but was afraid to screw it up The main thing you need to practice with a meer, is to just don't handle it over concrete, or drop onto a hard surface, I had a couple bad experiences, but was able to recover the pipes...probably most most valuable pipe from the Victorian era, I almost had a catastrophic loss....I really dodged a bullet on that one. Fred Bass has a lot of knowledge in cleaning up estate meers, and there is some great advice to be culled from the article on caring for a meer. rebornpipes.com/2012/08/01/cleaning-up-estate-meerschaums-fred-bass/And from Pipedia: pipedia.org/wiki/Pipe_care/cleaning

I have two meers and I just run a pipe cleaner thru them after smoking. I don't let a cake build up either. As to "ghosting", I've never had a problem with it in my meers.I don't own a micro-fiber,nor do I wax my meers,I'll let them color on their own.
