So I was sitting comfy in my chair tonight smoking my pipe watching the Olympics wondering just how someone gets up the nerve to ski down a mountain just as fast as they possibly can.It takes an awful lot of nerve or a total lack of sanity..Maybe both..It's fun to watch though.

Definitely both. Plus lots of leg strength. Amazing how much hard work it is to stay upright going that fast. Damn near as much as slalom.

The greatest thing I have ever seen in skiing was Franz Klammer in a downhill race back in the 70's. One of those once in a lifetime things. I still haven't seen it topped.

Just watched the men's snowboarding qualifications Tivoed from last night. Shaun White is in great form. These guys are doing quintuple back flips 40 feat in the air. They don't seem human.

The snowboarding is interesting for a novelty, but i love watching slalom. I did a little amateur slaloming lo these many years ago, and I marvel at the technique and leg strength of the skiers. Those guys and girls train by running uphill carrying cannonballs or pulling a pickup truck!
