Rather than travel briefly to far-flung points on the globe, as a young man I made a conscious decision to dwell for extended periods in different areas of the US.
Sure, I have missed a lot of great sights, but I still feel that I made the right choice... 10 or more years in various sections of the continental US have given me insights and understanding unavailable in any other way.
As I get older, I find myself wishing to travel to a place that does not exist anymore... the past.

...and, speaking of travel, how many pipes and how much tobacco do you take with you on, let's say, a one-week trip?

Normally three pipes, of which one is always a cob. And three tobaccos. Of what I have open, normally a Burley, VaPer and straight Va.

When I take a road trip, I take one good cob and two briars. I usually don't have a set number of tobaccos, but it is at least two blends and frequently as many as six. I haven't flown in ten years or so, so I don't know what I would take if I did. I might just find a drugstore when I got in and buy a cob and some PA or H&H. I hate checking bags.

Being a very occasional smoker I bought a pencil case from Tesco which fits a pipe (Legend, of course) and about 3-4 25g pouches. I take this with me if I'm ever on a trip away anywhere. It does the job for me.
I do wish I was able to travel more - I often think about upping sticks and moving to Canada / USA / Australia.

I grew up moving all around as well, after spending time living in 7 countries on four continents I can honestly say that it isn't so easy to come back home. Many times I've felt an outsider in my own home country. I don't bring a pipe on the airplane but when travelling by ground I usually bring one pipe (at most two) and one tobacco.

I have a canvass tote bag with about 15 tins and my pipe bag is usually loaded with at least a dozen pipes. You never know when you'll get stranded.

I find it much easier to travel with cigars. I have a xikar carrier/humidor that works fine.

The last time I traveled was in July 2016. I took my oldest daughter to Italy for 3 weeks as a graduation of college gift. I took my pipe briefcase with me which is pictured below. It holds at least 7 pipes in specific holders plus plenty of room for more in pipe bags. It holds my laptop tons of tobacco and plenty of pipe cleaners. I bought it from smokingpipes somewhere around 2001.

I am probably going to make a trip to England and Ireland in a few years, but most all of my traveling is done in states where I can legally carry a gun on me... states that don’t respect that right, I choose not to spend money in, or spend time there.

If I make a suggestion, figure Scotland into that trip. You will not regret it.

You will feel much safer traveling in the UK, because of the almost total absence of guns in the hands of the populace.

I have a lot of pipe and cigar luggage but my Ziploc bagadore goes everywhere with me. I was (and could be again) a road warrior for 25 years. I've probably spent a quarter to a third of my whole life sleeping in motels. My trusty "Action Pac" accompanied me most of the nights. My Smokin' Holster's Ultimate Pipe Bag is my favorite. It's outer is made from leather sourced from the tannery that does the Rawling's handmade pro gloves and was one of Neil's first UPB's that he stitched with Kangaroo hide.

My DD-214 says I’m an expert with both an M-16 and Colt .45. I feel much safer where these weapons are not allowed and will not patronize places where they are. Good on states moving in this direction.

Uh, yeah... the US is not going to compare favorably to the UK or elsewhere in Europe when it comes to violent crime - especially gun crime. Even the knife statistics comparison has been debunked. Personally, I'd rather be in a public place where a guy goes berserk with a stiletto than with an AR-15.

I keep it simple when I travel. I usually take my Alan Brothers pipe roll, a single pipe (one of the three I have designated for travel), a Czech tool, a handful of cleaners, and only one tobacco in a Cvault mini tin. I just buy a Bic lighter at my destination.

That's a sharp looking bag. Is it a standard briefcase or customized for pipes?

I throw a cob and a cheap briar into a little Indian bag my wife gave me, along with some randoms samples in ziplocs, a tamper, and some cleaners. Plus a tin of small cigars. But seeing @10furlongs setup makes me think I should up my travel kit game. I think I'll at least put one of those $20 Stanwells in there next time.
