...just had the best bowl in 45 years of pipe-smoking... Two Friends Celtic Mist in a virgin MM Ozark Mountain Hardwood Pipe.
What? I'm a Penzance guy.
Still trying to wrap my head around it.
Perfect in every way.

Congratulations! That is a rare event... 45 years! I had one of those MM hardwoods a few years back wore it out - burned through at the shank/bowl connection. I see you are from the San Francisco area; I have some good memories of that area from when I visited several years ago. I particularly like San Jose; the climate there is perfect!

Although initially picking up a pipe back in 1982, I am admittedly a relative noob, having only really gotten serious about it 1 1/2 years ago.
But for, far and a way is the 20 yo Penzance I picked up last year. I've only had 3 bowls from it and only smoke it on special occasions, but it is without a doubt Nirvana.

Most surprising bowl ever was Five Brothers. It's simple, and as #6 said, Plain Jane, but it fully delivered. To me the best bowl would either have to be a blow out English or a full on Aro.
Tied for best bowl: Brigadier Black Alamo, Corn Cob Pipe and Button Nose, Low Country Hazelnut, Pumpkin Spice, and Christmas Spice. All of these delivered to the max.
I have yet to have a Captain Black Grape or Penzance moment.
PS - You have probably noticed by now that asking a straight question gets you nowhere with me

My best bowl (so far) wasn't necessarily the greatest ever (so far), but it was the overall experience that made it great.
My wife and I were on a weekend in Dublin. I was smoking my sample of 'cube' for the first time, sitting outside with a pint of Guinness on a warmish Saturday afternoon, watching the world go by. I'll never forget that day or that pipe experience.

I have been thinking about this topic and remembered a smoke I had back in 1993 or 1994. It was in my first Dunhill (an estate) and it was my first smoke in it. A friend gave me some Lane 1Q and I thought that it was absolutely the best smoke in a pipe that I had ever had.

Perfect in every way. That's pretty sweet. The Ozark Hardwoods have a strong taste from the finished bowl that must burn off before it settles into a nice smoking pipe. They are a real bargain and once the bowl is charred up they are fine smokers. All the planets were aligned for you!
