They be good^^^^^. Right now...just listening to me breathing...first thing in the morning...that is about all I care to listen to..next up the birds and squirrels...and the baby girl (chihuahua) snoring...lightly, but still snoring.

Lynyrd Skynyrd – (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd) Saw them open for the Who in SF back in '73... the concert where Keith Moon collapsed twice, and they brought a kid up out of the audience to play drums for a couple of numbers until Moon could be revived.

A great version of an old favorite. Lucky to have seen him many times in concert and have great memories of him rushing onto the stage to play that for an encore. Another favorite with Kate Bush.

Great movie and a pretty amazing cover of the theme song! Not sure if anyone has shared this but it's well entertaining. Plus, if you play guitar at any level, he will make you feel like a total slack arse. Enjoy!

My friend and I had a discussion about TVZ recently. I really like him (she doesn't), but we both agree that his success in the alt Country/folk world presents some problems. Some shallower folks see his success and falsely attribute it in part to his mental problems (bipolar disorder/alcoholism). They begin to glorify those mental problems and try to emulate them. Do you have any thoughts on that? Also, I'm listening to my favorite radio DJ, Ferris O'Brien. He does a great job of playing all kinds of music: rock, country, jazz, blues, and anything else that might come up. I'm pretty stuck in my musical tastes, and Ferris's show does a good job pf introducing me to new stuff. Right now he's playing "Family Man" by Lily Allen.

Few exemptions. Listen to Roky Erickson! Guy is so insane they have to walk him to the mic, but he's a genius. It's easy to get 'stuck' and no shame in that. Once you've found the soundtrack for your life, you don't really need more. That being said, I'm a disabled veteran with nothing but hours to fill. Hahaha I spend hours digging for music. I have a playlist on Spotify that only bands with 1000 monthly plays can be on. So when my friends start liking the bands, they get erased from the playlist. I'm one of the dudes who like the hunt as much as the quarry. I'm also all over the place music wise. I hate pop music for the sake of. Not to be confused with music so great, it becomes pop. But yeah. Someone like TVZ, I never knew anyone who was into him. When I found the guy for myself, it was something I just liked. Anyone that depressing that somehow makes you feel better for listening. There's something there. And yes.... I'm drinking. Hahahaha

I don't really know what to make of my getting stuck in music. These days, I've become really attached to Guy Clark, Jason Isbell, and Frank Turner. Clark, especially, really seems to come from the same mental space that I do. "Cold Dog Soup" (both the album and the song) really manages to capture the "redneck academic" side of my life. He had his own problems, to be sure, but he was a tremendous songwriter who never really got the attention he deserved, I don't think. He certainly isn't unknown (he wouldn't fit on your <1000 playlist), but he never had the same fame as TVZ or Steve Earle. Anyway, I'm rambling. Thanks for chipping in on the discussion.

If I may offer some suggestions, try Southeastern by Jason Isbell, Positive Songs for Negative People by Frank Turner, and the aforementioned Cold Dog Soup by Guy Clark. You can't really go wrong with any albums by these folks, but these are good starting places, I think.

Now I'm listening to "Cold Dog Soup" by Guy Clark. Tremendous. Give 'er a listen. I personally guarantee you'll have a good time.

Y'all are getting an education in Guy Clark tonight.
