He posts on The Gentleman's Pipe Smoking Society/ Facebook when he makes a new pipe, and as he progresses through a carving....I would like to see him turned loose carving Meerschaum!
He says he spends up to 250 hours carving a pipe, it has to be a labor of love, because you can only charge what people are willing to pay, and when you rack up 250 hours and divide it by the price, you aren't getting rich anytime soon...even if you sell a pipe for 3k, it works out to $12.00 an hour just for labor. (and I don't think they sell for anywhere near that)

I suppose if it was for his own personal use then it's time well spent on an amazing hobby using an incredible gift. |

I know he has sold some... Then he's not getting anywhere near what the art dictates he should get. But, like you say, 'you can't sell much higher than the going rate.' |
