I hope this is not off topic guys but I do not know much about how hobbies and virtual clubs and forums work, been to busy to play much. But this is the third forum I have been on, and with all respect the staff identify themselves on this forum, though with avatars , which is an improvement of the other anonymous pipe forums I have only discovered recently. But I have been an inactive radio ham for years , part of my job CV, but you know who is who in that field , why the anonymity ? I can live with it don't get me wrong, I enjoy your company folks, but is is difficult to live with, but does anyone want to discuss it ?

Hey Stan,
Anonymity is pretty much the fact of the matter when it comes to online communities. I don't think our mods and admins are necessarily trying to hide who they are (I'll let them speak for themselves), but there's a lot of wisdom in maintaining some level of privacy. Back when forums and chat rooms were all the rage here in the US, severally scary stories of kids getting abducted began surfacing. Even though we know better now, there's still that bit of desire to maintain a certain amount of privacy for protection. I don't know if the UK has had similar issues come up in the past 20 years, but it's something I was very close to because I grew up when many of these stories broke on local news. My parents changed what they allowed my siblings and I to do online in reaction to the news.
This is probably one of the more open forums, with the option to announce one's first name right in the mini-profile that appears alongside each post. As I said, I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I'm certainly not trying to hide much of anything... Except perhaps my undying love for pizza.

I've been on different forums for going on 20 years.I can honestly say in my opinion this one is run as well if not better than any of them.Partly I think because the members here want a well run friendly place to talk in print to each other..As far as pizza Jamie Pizza Hut pan pizza is probably my favorite food.

This is a good forum. Well run, participants are respectful of one another. The forum is new and looks to be just starting to pick up momentum.

I have it on good authority that Sparks is actually a murderer with a long rap sheet, hence the anonymity...when people disappear from forum participation...he typically blames it on cyclical trends, people's interests change, etc. He has all our isp's, and he claims that he sometimes "travels out of town" for work.
I don't think it is a coincidence that people disappear at the same time.

I'm enjoying this place & thanx to Sparks who put in a lotta work & time to set it up. I don't reply to every thread but this one got my interest. All this coming from the "senior" poster at original ASP which I do daily. Shortly headed for the Chatzy chats.

Thanks for teaching me of the world of forums, I am new to them, but as I say I can adapt to the reality if that is how it is. In the radio amateur world most people in office are open I have found in their lives, so I struggle with this new hobby at my age, but thanks for your time. As I said this patch is the best I have found so all respect to sparky and staff.

You guys give me too much credit. Charlie... I think you know too much though. Joking aside, no intent at secrecy here, Stan. I have used my avatar for years, it's just a party of my online persona. I have never been afraid to share my mug, with the exception that I might scare some people off. Maybe it's time for a "Show Your Face" thread.

Good point, Stan. In addition to Sparks (Justin), both puffadder and I are Moderators. So, if there are any concerns please feel free to PM us. It's our job to ensure the forum maintains a high quality of conversation and remains a safe and friendly place.
