Way back in the 60's when I first started the pipe there was no such thing as a rotation. Today I could smoke a different pipe for every day of the year but now it is time for a serious cull.

...I keep thinking... "a smoker only needs 7 pipes", but the damn things are like rabbits... they keep multiplying...
oh yes, indeed!

Way more than 5, I have over 3 dozen MM cobs salted away for retirement, as I'll be retiring the end of this year. Plan ahead I say.

The guy I bought my '86 Peterson Mark Twain from was smoking Super Value Vanilla in a DRG with electric tape around the shank. I said, are you sure you don't want to just keep this pipe? Lol

I only have 2 unsmoked. Only because I went a little nuts a couple weeks ago when it was warm out and I made a few pipes, so I just haven't gotten thru breaking them all in. 'Bout 2 more weeks and I'll have no unsmoked on hand. Why have 'em if ya don't smoke 'em I say?

One was a bent bulldog (which he usually smoked at home), another was a 3/4 bent billiard (which was his at work, crappie/bass fishing, and trapshooting companion), and there was one I used to call his "all-day" pipe, because its bowl was about 2 3/4" in height and beautifully rusticated in black. Once he packed that baby, it was with him most of the day...

Pipes I haven't smoked in my collection, about 200. Pipes that have never been smoked and I have to guess at this because there all still packed away except my rotation, about ten?

I have a minimum of 25 pipes I’ve yet to smoke, I lost count. Some are rare old unsmoked beauties that one day my daughter will be selling. A few should bring her BIG bucks. I left her instructions who to get in touch with when the time comes. Honestly, 3 are Museum pieces ( so I’ve been told ) and should never be smoked.

One, a Paul Perri pipe, too pretty to smoke, I smoke the 300+ though.

My dad smoked Sir Walter Raleigh all day every day and owned one pipe at a time. He knocked it out after each smoke, but didn't clean it until it was unsmokable. When it broke or he lost it he got a new one. As for me, I have less than five that are unsmoked.

From the responses...more than most, since I'm a smoker and a collector. I have between 20-30 unsmoked; some haven't been with me all that long and will get smoked, while others are 'dust collectors'. With a pipe farm approaching 300...I have more than plenty of smokers...and I admittedly collect certain ones without a certainty that I'll ever smoke it.

None. I smoke all 44 of the pipes I own, at least once a month per pipe.

Crazy, we buy pipes and never smoke them. I have 4 incoming plus at least 30 that haven't seen tobacco. When will it end 🤣😎
