I am taking one for the team here. I have two different sizes Meerschaum filters, but they fit tightly in my savs and get soaked and fall apart in one smoke. I just ordered some of the Big Bens, which are only in 9mm, but am hoping they do as stated with the ceramic ends.
Keep the post open, honey! I'm comin' back for more!

I hate filters. The 6mm paper ones mute the flavor and restrict the draw. The balsa inserts are OK in terms of not affecting flavor. However, I am a relatively dry smoker and like to be able to use a cleaner while I am smoking for the little bit of moisture that I do get. I also prefer to leave a cleaner inserted if I have to set the pipe aside mid smoke or when I’m done and the pipe is cooling. All my Savinellis have the non-filter adapter installed except, of course, for the older ones from before the balsa insert. I use balsa inserts in cobs until I get around to replacing the crappy MM stem with a real stem.

I use Vauen Dr Perl Filters: System Filter Plus and Papier Filters in non-Savinelli pipes that require them.

About the only brand I don't have handy is Medico. Most places sell DRG, which seems more cheaply constructed than the Medicos. In my 6mm Savs I either have to filter or leave open. Those adapters don't seem to fit. Will sand them down one of these days

Being primarily a cob smoker I have smoked filtered and non-filtered cobs and enjoy both. When smoking a filtered cob I always used a filter to maintain what I consider a normal draw through the pipe, it also seemed to help with tar and moisture in the smoke stream.

I hate filters. Haven't used one since 1974.

Right now I've only 2 pipes and both a filtered corn-cobs. I've smoked pipes with filters and non filters and don't really have a preference, except the added cost of the filters. I've not smoked pipes with the larger 6 and 9mm filters. The only 9mm I've handled was in the military and never liked the "wonder 9" - - -- give me the old slab-side M1911 A1 any day! But that;s another subject for another day!
